June 11, 200916 yr I've had some graphics breakups while running FSX with some heavy duty aircraft,e.g. Level d,PMDG.I ran the Furmark stress test and it indicated a max temperature of 121 degrees C after about 15 minutes. The fan is running correctly and increases speed with temperature increase.I noticed that the fps on the test dropped to around 15.I'm currently using a standard PSU which came with the puter but have an extra PSU which I could install if necessary.I would like to know if anyone has used furmark test with the same card andwhat sort of results they got.Any suggestions welcomeRon Ron Service .
June 11, 200916 yr 121 degrees C is way too hot. you ideally want to be at half or less than half of that. turn up the fan manually in either the nvidia control panel or something else like ntune if you have it. if it continues to run at that temp then it will not last long, make sure your case is well ventilated too. i have no experience wit furmark so cant help you there. do you know the wattage of the other psu that isnt installed? that might help, Philip Regards, Philip Lodge PC specs; Windows 7 64 bit home premium, Asus P6X58D-E, Intel core i7 930 @ 4.0 GHz, Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 1600MHz triple channel RAM, POV GTX 470, 500gb HDD + 250gb FS HDD, 24" 1920 x 1200, 19" 1280 x 1024 GoFlight MCPPro, VRInsight CDU II, Saitek Pro Flight Radio Panel. If it improves much, it means your case has inadequate ventilation. If GPU temp exceeds 100 deg, stop the test. How is your CPU temp looking during all this?Could be the thermal compound between the heat sink and the GPU is not bonding correctly (i.e. dried out, or the GPU and heat sink have physically separated), an obstruction to the airflow (i.e. heavy dust or an insect like a moth in the duct). What's ambient temp in the room? RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, COSomehow I suspect the furmark tests are not giving me the correct readings, because as you say my card would have been cooked a long time ago.I've been running my computer with the case open for some time now, mainly because I'm still testing hardware.Does'nt Nvidia have their own hardware tests? My computer came with PC tools which also includes video hardware tests which my computer always passes.Ron Ron Service .
June 13, 200916 yr for reference..I have an overclocked 8800gts 512MB and never let it get above 62C. I've noticed slow downs and artifacts and freezes around 80c I believe. I also use RivaTuner for overclocking and fan control. Give that a try. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
