June 14, 200916 yr The pilot really screwed the pooch on this one. Not sure if he was trying to give the camera guy a show or what, but he obviously didn't have enough speed to be rotating. He should've keep going on down the lake along the fence line. Funny. Someone said he's a surgeon too! June 14, 200916 yr According to reports the pilot encountered a stronger than expected crosswind on takeoff. This is confirmed by the windsock visible in the video. FunnyIn my opinion damaging a +half million dollar airplane is anything but funny, luckily no serious injuries occurred.Someone said he's a surgeon too! What does the pilot's occupation have to do with anything? The best gift you can give your children is your time.
June 14, 200916 yr Author According to reports the pilot encountered a stronger than expected crosswind on takeoff. This is confirmed by the windsock visible in the video. In my opinion damaging a +half million dollar airplane is anything but funny, luckily no serious injuries occurred. What does the pilot's occupation have to do with anything?I highly doubt the wind was the sole cause of the accident. More than likely poor configuration for takeoff, overweight, and pilot error. It has been stated that this guy crashed his last plane, a Cessna, as well. So if that is true then this guy is a poor pilot and shouldn't be flying. Funny implies more than one meaning here in the U.S. Funny doesn't always imply comedy. I do think it's a comedy of sorts though, since no one was hurt and his poor piloting is what caused the crash. His being a doctor is funny because of the infamous line about so many doctors crashing planes because they have more money than skill at flying. June 15, 200916 yr The pilot was obviously showing off, other wise he would have used the rest of the lake to his right. He ended up showing his a$$. And bravo, lighten up there! :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
June 15, 200916 yr The pilot was obviously showing off, other wise he would have used the rest of the lake to his right. He ended up showing his a$$. And bravo, lighten up there! :(I disagree. If you watch 35 seconds in, the plane appears to be turned toward the fence, apparently by the wind. The pilot seems unable to turn back into the wind and attempts to rotate rather than driving directly into the onlookers (a father and son plane spotting with their video camera). The pilot may be a hero. R-
June 16, 200916 yr Well, if you observe the trees, winds aren't quite what I consider strong. Look at the windsock dude, it's showing something in the order of 5-8 knots. He was being video taped, and wanted to give a show (of course assumption, but not far fetched). Regardless, there was no action taken to correct for this "phantom crosswind" and the results are the same. Lack of skill or judgment; bad piloting. apparently by the wind. The pilot seems unable to turn back into the wind and attempts to rotate rather than driving directly into the onlookers (a father and son plane spotting with their video camera). The pilot may be a hero. R-I DID observe the aircraft, seemingly under control, somehow turn DIRECTLY towards the "spotters". Coincidence? One more point. The pilot had APPARENTLY crashed a plane just prior to this accident. I'm sure the prior accident was a heroic act as well, having to react to a rogue wind gust then too. :( :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

June 16, 200916 yr Thanks Geofa. But this is an unofficial report, and here say. I'm sure you understand the investigation process of the NTSB...? It's my understanding you fly real world like myself. So surely you understand that this article is UNRELIABLE (as is my assumption). Just watch CNN's coverage of the AF477 crash. Thanks for that anyway... And Geofa, besides posting an article based on who knows what, what do you think? Did it look like "loss of control" due to a gust of wind to you? ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
June 16, 200916 yr As a disclaimer. I know personally a pilot who was involved in an accident. He was showing off, and the manure hit the ventilation. He "fibbed" his way out of it, and ultimately got no certificate action against him. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

June 16, 200916 yr Actually I was just worried I was being too much of a cynic. :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
