June 16, 200916 yr I'm just curious as to just how much of a gain in performance I'll get in FS9 if I overclock the core and memory clock. I'm using stock cooling, and the card already runs at 58-60 C idle and 85C steady under HEAVY load. Keep in mind I'm pretty new to overclocking, and don't want to mess with it too much. Will the gain be noticeable?BTW, what's the best bang for the buck in terms of cooling the case and card. I'm low on cash this month. :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
June 20, 200916 yr Not worth it, 85C is really hot even for a GPU, i would not recommend overclocking it for FS9, you will get almost no perf increase | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 20, 200916 yr Author I did overclock it a little. Running FS9 maxed, it's showing hottest at 70C, FSX at 72C. I'm glad I did overclock, it helped with a *few* frames in FSX. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
June 20, 200916 yr 85 degrees C is the target full load temperature for modern NV graphics cards. I see it on my GTX 285 with fan speed set to auto, regardless of whether I run stock clocks or overclocked.
June 21, 200916 yr Author Yeah. Some of you guys are just used to seeing overclock geeks brag about how low their temps are. :( I'm happy with 80, and understand that to be safe. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
June 22, 200916 yr My 4850 reaches 96C in the Furmark stress test at stock :(FS benefits more from a faster CPU. If you want more performance, overclock the CPU instead. -
June 23, 200916 yr Author I understand that, Jimmi, but I did see a performance increase with the GPU OC. I'm not touching the CPU. Ever. :( 96 is too hot, btw. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
