June 25, 200916 yr Hello to all Is there anyone out there who can tell me , when one down loads a aircraft sound file , is there not a way to , instead of pasting that file into the relavant aircraft file , to rather paste it into the main sound file and some how alias that sound file to the relavant AC , Why , well lets just say i have 5 A340 AC , all AC have the same sound file , and it just cogs up hard disk space. So having just one sound file and alias that file would really save a lot of disk space .Please be patient with me as im kinda new at this sort of thing .Regards
June 25, 200916 yr In your fs9 aircraft folder you will see a folder named fsfsconv. Put the sound file in there... then edit the sound cfg. of each aircraft you want to use that sound. If for instance the sound was called A340.sound, you would edit the aircraft sound cfg. to look like this....Alias=fsfsconv/A340.sound. I think thats right, but am open to correction.Russell.

June 26, 200916 yr Moderator I've never understood why ACES chose such a silly name for that folder...Why didn't they name it something a bit more meaningful, such as.....\SharedConfigsor..\CommonFiles :( Fr. June 26, 200916 yr I created two new files: _Alias Sound and _Alias Panels. That way they are at the very top, right under 'Flight Simulator 9', and easily found and accessed; if I want sound files, there's a specific place to go without sorting through other files, such as panels. Just a very minor thing, but it makes things less complicated for me.Bob
June 27, 200916 yr I've never understood why ACES chose such a silly name for that folder...I'm guessing that started with FS95 or FS98, with the converter for aircraft created for FS5 with FS Flight Shop. I believe that's the first I've seen the FSFSConv folder show up...Why that folder is still around, I don't know... The days of converting FSFS aircraft for FS5.x are long gone for most of us.... :( But I guess the legacy had to continue on for backwards compatibility..... Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
