July 12, 200916 yr Everyone,Is there a convenient way to find sounds or panels that are not aliased to any aircraft? I have many that I think are no longer needed by any aircraft and they are taking up valuable disc space.I used to use JAB2000 for this purpose, but I can no longer get the utility to open. Thanks in advance for your help.gwillmot

July 13, 200916 yr I am standing here beside myself! :(I will keep you company. To my knowledge there is no utility or program to do this. That being said I would think it would be fairly obvious to see them in Windows Explorer.Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

I know where the sounds and panels are located, but I would like to know if any of them are NOT aliased (assigned) to any aircraft so that I might safely delete them.gwillmot........alone again, naturally! :(
July 13, 200916 yr Thanks for keeping me company, but I think you misunderstood my question. I know where the sounds and panels are located, but I would like to know if any of them are NOT aliased (assigned) to any aircraft so that I might safely delete them.gwillmot........alone again, naturally! :(Sounds and Panels (gauges) generally do not use up a great deal of disk space as compared to some other components which FS uses. There are a couple of utilities available which will search for unused gauges but none I have tried are very reliable so will not make any recommendations.I have not run across anything which checks for unused sound files. If you are really concerned about disk space, you probably should be considering upgrading to a larger HD.One tip you may find useful in the future regarding gauges:When auditioning a new aircraft which includes gauges to be added to your default gauge folder, do not put them there. Instead, put them in the panel folder of that aircraft. FS looks in the panel folder first for any gauges it requires and if they are not there, then looks in the default gauges folder.Using that method, if you decide not to keep the aircraft, one delete will get it all with no stray gauges to try to hunt down in your default gauges folder. Hope these comments are useful. :(
July 13, 200916 yr Another tip that falls into the horse has left the barn category. If you have sound and/or panel folders that are aliased to other planes, leave a simple text file in the folder listing them.Because my memory is not what it used to be my FS installation is littered with text file reminders of changes I have made. And still from time to time I find changes I forgot to notate. Some text files are actually empty and all the info I need to remember is contained in the filename. Hope this helps,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
