July 29, 200916 yr Hello guys. While waiting for my new rig's parts to arrive (sometime next week), I've decided to revisit a long standing issue on my current PC, hopefully with you guy's help.I notice a considerable FPS drop only when my mouse cursor is visible in the VC of more demanding complex aircraft. I can keep a steady 30 fps, but when I move the mouse, I'm down as low as 15-20 fps. Oddly enough, I can open a 2d panel (ie. the FMC), hover over the panels' window, and FPS is restored. This, of course, is especially noticeable in heavy clouds/AI traffic/scenery. I also never have the issue with other sims I use.I'm using the Saitek X52, Logitech LX7 cordless mouse, and Trackir5. My problem has persisted since before tracker, through various brands/models/drivers of GPUs, and endless combinations of drivers for the X52 and LX7. I should also note I've tried using both Logitech's and Microsoft's default mouse drivers-- the MS drivers are currently controlling the mouse.Where do I start?! ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 30, 200916 yr Author I didn't expect anyone to have a clue. I'll just have to deal with it, I guess :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 30, 200916 yr I saw this and was pondering possibilites.. I have never seen this issue beforeMouse driver..Seen issues in other software (Ultimate traffic 2) where the Microsoft Intellimouse products old drivers were causing slowdowns in the interface.. fix was to update to latest MS mouse driver however I believe that was a conflict between NET 3.5 (UT2 uses NeT3.5) and the driver..Another thought was toBrowse to the FSX install folderRight click the FSX.exe file - PROPERTIES Click the Compatibility Tab Check "Disable desktop composition" and "Disable visual themes." click OK (NOTE: XP may only have 'Disable visual themes') Go to the desktop and verify the shortcut to FSX has the same items checkedSee if it makes a difference
July 31, 200916 yr Author Thanks Nick. I had tried disabling visual themes. Never had an effect. As for mouse drivers: Regardless of using the latest/rollback MS or Logitech's offerings, no difference. It's a long shot, but I'm curious as to rather it is any symptom of the mouse controller on my Saitek X52. When the X52 is plugged in, I have very noticeable mouse tracking/clicking issues. My left/right mouse buttons will stick (not physically), sometimes causing me to "drag" things I otherwise wanted to "click". Only lately has it been noticeably caused by the joystick being plugged in, but I highly doubt my performance issue is any relation.I also tried with the Saitek X52 magic mouse driver disabled/uninstalled, no joy. Oh well. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 31, 200916 yr ZachAre you using the SST software for the Saitek, I had to uninstall SST on my machine as I had issues with a Logitech G5 mouse - erratic, jerky, etc. The downside I can no longer use the mouse functions on the X52.I've also see similar problems when I had Intellipoint software for the keyboard and logitech software for the mouse and apparently sometimes there can be a "clash" between the MS and logitech mouse/keyborad software programs.RegardsPeterH
July 31, 200916 yr Author Hi Peter. I actually have tried all combinations of drivers, but currently am using MS-only for the keyboard/mouse. Uninstalling my SST software, however, is not an option as I use very complex profiles for Black Shark, Falcon4 AF, and MSFS. :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

Uninstalling my SST software, however, is not an option as I use very complex profiles for Black Shark, Falcon4 AF, and MSFS. :(It might be possible to go into the Windows device manager and disable the mouse driver on the X52 there (there should be separate mouse and HID drivers for the X52), thus keeping the rest of the SST funtions working. If that works, you could set up a separate hardware profile for FS that has the X52 mouse disabled as a result of selecting the profile at startup.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case

If they do exist, there will be very few conflicts to investigate-- in theory.I would recheck this. I was having all sorts of strange problems with my X52. I traced it down to my mouse installation software mistaking the X52 mouse for a "regular" mouse and installing drivers for it. To correct the issue, I had to remove all mouse and X52 software (including drivers), then install the mouse software first, then the X52 software.Edited: I also ensured the X52 remained unplugged until after the mouse driver was reinstalled.
