default Malta scenery

Featured Replies

Which of the files in the main scenery folder control Malta, specifically the airport LMML?I'm having a huge problem with that airport- it doesn't show up at all. I have a big, empty green patch where the airport should be, with the default terrain's roads going around it, but there's no airport. I opened up AFCAD and checked, and the stock AFCAD file is present. I can see my AI planes parking, but the ramps/runways/everything else doesn't show up, and the planes are simply sitting in the middle of nowhere. I've taken out every addon I have that might mess with it, but nothing's worked. If I try to add a mesh or a landclass, nothing changes. If I add an addon LMML scenery, I still have the empty field. So could someone tell me the stock files that control this airport, and the date their from, so I can check to see if my originals haven't gotten messed up or erased somehow.thanks

Have you taken a look at Malta Scenery Design's add-on for that airport? There is a freeware version of it for FS9 as well as a fancier payware one, and more importantly, there is a support forum for any issues you may have with it. The developer (Daniel Chircop) is both very knowledgeable on those matters and very helpful too, and you can email him via a link on his site. I've checked that .bgl file, and it's the original default. My airport is still not there. However, I don't have a RR951190 or a UT95119. I don't know how these files work, but since they have the same number, I thought that I would bring it up.I'm trying to use the malta scenery design one, but the same problem happens with that one too as well as the default.I have a suspicion that there's some addon scenery I have lurking around and messing things up. Anybody know of a way I can see exactly what changes are happening on that region, or to find the file that's doing this?

One other thing that can screw with scenery is add-on traffic programs. It's unusual, but it can happen. Got any of those installed?Al

I do not have those files either, and they would contain railroad(RR) and power line(UT) info if they where there.Check to make sure you also have AB951190.bgl (airport background) and FL951190.bgl (airport flatten) in that same folder.Joe

I really appreciate the help.1. I have all of the WOAI packages installed, the MAIW ones, and a few that I've made. But I can't imagine that that would be the problem. I keep very careful track of what new AFCADs and sceneries enter my install, and write down where each of them is located.2. I have both those files, and they're both dated May 21, 2003, so no problem there.3. Just in case it might help, some sceneries require you to muck about in the default files, and I've kept backups. Here's the files in the Eurw scenery that I've had to change around and what scenery I changed them for: LIRF and LIRN- AP951170 and FL951170LSZH- AP9501504. Are there any other airports that 951190 controls? Maybe I can check them to see if they're missing. If none of them are messed up, then the only thing I can think of would be some addon-file that slipped in somehow without me keeping track of it. Any ideas as to how I might find it.thanks for your time and help

The only other airport is LICD - LampedusaMost of the area that file covers is water. That being said, do you have any addons that might alter coastlines etc. like Ultimate terrain?Joe

Aha! LICD is missing too. Now I'm getting somewhere.A recap: in my EURW scenery folder, I have:AB951190.bgl, dated May 21, 2003, 2378 bytesAP951190.bgl, dated May 31, 2003, 16377 bytesFL951190.bgl, dated May 21, 2003, 864 bytesHL951190.bgl, dated May 21, 2003, 3587 bytesHP951190.bgl, dated May 21, 2003, 17772 bytesRD951190.bgl, dated May 21, 2003, 987 bytesST951190.bgl, dated May 21, 2003, 871 bytesThey're all fine.As for landclass/meshes, I have a mesh for the antilles, finland, norway, greece, ontario, quebec, and thailand. The only country-wide landclass I have is for finland, the rest are just the ones that come with some airports. I have them all in one place, though, so if I knew how and needed to to I could look at them and see what each one applied to.

AB951190.bgl, dated May 21, 2003, 2378 bytes
Mine is only 871 bytes so this might be the problem child.I suggest you extract the original file from your FS9 discs. It can be found on disc #3 in MSGAME8.cab. You can extract these files like any zip file.Hope this helps,Joe

sorry, that was a typo. mine was 871 too. Just to be sure, I reinstalled all of the 951190 files, but still nothing.I then looked at the eurw scenery folder by date and found that there was one new file that I wasn't aware of, so I tried replacing that one with the default, but no dice.I then ran a search for AP and AB951190, and the only results were those in the scenery files.I am completely stumped. It should be working, as far as I can tell. The only explanation left that I can find is that some other addon file with a higher priority is overwriting it, and I need some way to tell which one.

2 thoughts,1) make sure your scenery complexity sliders are all full right.2)

some other addon file with a higher priority is overwriting it, and I need some way to tell which one.
the best way to accomplish this is to de-activate (not necessarily un-install) half of your addon scenerys and check the sim.If the problem is still there de-activate half of the still active addons, if the problem is gone activate half of the inactive scenerys and recheck the sim. By continuing in this fashion you will locate the offending file rather quickly.Don't be surprised if you find out the bad file is for a scenery far away from Malta as 1 small typo could cause this. There have been stories of phantom jetways showing up at airports that came from an addon hundreds of miles away.Hope this helps solve it. Either way post back your findings and if need be we can try something else.Joe

hey! it worked!I deleted the most recent 15 sceneries, and the airport was back. Now I'm putting them back in chunks of five to find the culprit.thanks so much for your help and ideas.
