Multiple Simconnect versions?

Featured Replies

I have searched via Google and found multiple different variations of the following issue, but none of the fixes have worked thus far. I am hoping someone can assist:I downloaded the freeware TweakFS XML Toolbox that was just released and it brought my attention to my simconnect.dll being missing. As per the articles I found on Google, I downloaded an MSI file that supposedly manually installs the version of simconnect that comes with the original FSX RTM, but this did not fix the issue. Some of the articles also mentioned there are TWO versions of simconnect as a dll. So I have 2 questions:First -- does one version overwrite the other? If "No", then . . . Second -- Where can I get the MSI installer for the Acceleration/SP2 version of Simconnect? I cannot find it on Google anywhere and cannot find a manual simconnect file on my Acceleration DVD.On the good news front, at least this handy little tool helped reassure me that all of my other crucial FSX files are present and accounted for :-) THANKS to TweakFS for this handy tool :-)

Oops. It's not the dll apparently that's missing. According to the tool, it's the XML file that's missing. Any ideas on how to manually create this?

The versions of SimConnect come with their respective product installations. They are all installed, they do not overwrite each other. They utilize a process called Windows Side-by-Side. Installation in Windows SxS is extremely complex and should only be done with the proper installer.The XML file should be installed by the same installers.

Looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?><SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">  <Descr>SimConnect Server Configuration</Descr>  <Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>  <Disabled>False</Disabled>  <!-- Example Global (remote) Pipe Server Configuration-->  <SimConnect.Comm>	<Disabled>True</Disabled>	<Protocol>Pipe</Protocol>	<Scope>global</Scope>	<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>	<Port>REPLACE_WITH_PORT_NAME</Port>  </SimConnect.Comm>  <!-- Example Global (remote) IPv6 Server Configuration-->  <SimConnect.Comm>	<Disabled>True</Disabled>	<Protocol>IPv6</Protocol>	<Scope>global</Scope>	<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>	<Address>::</Address>	<Port>REPLACE_WITH_PORT_NUMBER</Port>  </SimConnect.Comm>  <!-- Example Global (remote) IPv4 Server Configuration-->  <SimConnect.Comm>	<Disabled>True</Disabled>	<Protocol>IPv4</Protocol>	<Scope>global</Scope>	<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>	<Address>0.0.0.0</Address>	<Port>REPLACE_WITH_PORT_NUMBER</Port>  </SimConnect.Comm>  <!-- Example Local Pipe Server Configuration-->  <SimConnect.Comm>	<Disabled>True</Disabled>	<Protocol>Pipe</Protocol>	<Scope>local</Scope>	<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>	<Port>REPLACE_WITH_PORT_NAME</Port>  </SimConnect.Comm>  <!-- Example Local IPv6 Server Configuration-->  <SimConnect.Comm>	<Disabled>True</Disabled>	<Protocol>IPv6</Protocol>	<Scope>local</Scope>	<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>	<Address>::1</Address>	<Port>REPLACE_WITH_PORT_NUMBER</Port>  </SimConnect.Comm>  <!-- Example Local IPv4 Server Configuration-->  <SimConnect.Comm>	<Disabled>True</Disabled>	<Protocol>IPv4</Protocol>	<Scope>local</Scope>	<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>	<Address>127.0.0.1</Address>	<Port>REPLACE_WITH_PORT_NUMBER</Port>  </SimConnect.Comm></SimBase.Document>

Hi Folks_Christopher_ -AIUI - (certainly in SP2/Acceleration).The Simconnect.xml file is only neededif you are running Simconnect clients on a second PC.Simconnect.xml - On server machine, (your primary FSX PC).Simconnect.cfg - On client machinesHTHATBPaul

As Paul said, with SP2 or Acceleration you only need the SimConnect.XML file to support remote (ie on another computer) SimConnect clients, or to support the Silverlight SimConnect clients that my new Managed SimConnect SDK makes possible (see my Windows Azure cloud site for information if you are interested).As to creating/editing the file, I believe the new tool from FSTweak should be able to do that for you (I thought that was the whole point of that tool, it allows editing the various XML based configuration files).Timhttp://beatlesblog.spaces.live.com

Cool! I won't worry about it then :-) Like I said, to be honest I had no clue that file even had a purpose in the FS world until I installed that little utility from TweakFS. When it said it was checking certain files and a nice big red shield comes up for one of them "not found" I naturally had to research it :-)Thank you all for your assistance. I do not use client machines (although someday I may use my laptop for Wx and flight tracking, but for now I just use it for graphic design and photography), so that explains it's absence.Take care :-)Chris
