August 4, 200916 yr Moderator Guys I have a question for anyone who uses this tool. Usually I use it to add mips to addon aircraft textures and in the past it has always worked fine. However, the other day I purchased a new a/c and it wasn't mipped by the developer. As I normally do I open the tool, find the textures (.dds files), convert them with mips and I am all set. The problem is that the new a/c I bought has .dds texture files, but when I go to open them it closes the DDS Converter. I have in the past mipped textures from Aerosoft, Nemeth, and RealAir with no problem, but for what ever reason the .dds files from this developer won't open in the converter. I also downloaded some freeware repaints in .dds textures for the same a/c and was able to open them no problem, just the ones that were shipped crash or close the converter when I try to open or view them.Would any of you have a solution or work around so that I can get these darn things open?ThanksSean Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

August 4, 200916 yr If you have Photoshop get the dds tools from Nivida and try to open them in Photoshop, ( the Nivida plug ins don't work with 64 bit Photoshop ).
August 10, 200916 yr Have you tried DXTBmp by Martin Wright? It's awesome for helping to work on FS files. And he has been generous enough to offer it as freeware. He's got several other helpful utilities as well.http://fly.to/mwgfx/ Tom Perry
August 10, 200916 yr Hi FolksSean -Check that the texture is actually a genuine dds,and not just a renamed .bmpAlways use the SDK ImageTool to ensure correct conversion. Also worth reading FSDeveloper - Wiki - Missing texturesas if the model actually calls .bmp files,it will consider it a missing file, and perform multiple disk accesses searching for similarly named filesthus impact on performance.HTHATBPaul ODG Preview

August 11, 200916 yr Copy the texture folder on your desktop and then run the converter as u would do. however when pointing the source of the textures , select the texture folder on the desktop and click on convert. When it's done, just copy and paste that desktop folder back in your aircraft folder in fsx and overwrite if asked.BTW make sure that this folder is not read only before doing the above.
