August 7, 200916 yr Well, I've been posting here for a while about how i'll be building an i7 computer, getting suggestions. Now it's finally time to start finalizing. Just got my student loan for flight school, which will leave me with about $2000 to build a new desktop. Here's what I have so far ($USD):COOLER MASTER HAF 932 $150ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 $290Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz $280mushkin 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $180BFG Tech GeForce GTX 285 $330Antec TruePower New TP-750 750W Continuous Power $1402x HITACHI Deskstar P7K500 500GB 7200rpm 16mb cache $55 (x2)Logitech G15 $75LG W2353V-PF Black 23" 2ms(GTG) $220SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R $27Canon PIXMA MX700 $120TOTAL: $1900ishHad to add the printer on there to remind myself i need to allocate $$ towards one ;)Biggest question I have is on the PS, is that enough? Is it a good one? I'm not too in touch with power supplies.Other than that, I'll take any suggestions on how to lower the price and get near the same results :DI'm not planning on OC'ing any time soon, so I'm thinking I'll stick with the stock fan.

I'm not really a big Antec fan after I had a couple failures...I use PC Power and Cooling. Corsair power supplies are good, too.You really should reconsider overclocking...with a mainstream $60 aftermarket HSF you can get the 920 easily to the low 3 GHz range--at stock voltages--almost without trying. You don't have to push things to the cutting edge to get a nice healthy boost in performance.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
August 8, 200916 yr Dude, send some of that loan money to me for my CFI and double I ratings. The overclock isn't essential for FSX in many cases, I feel. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

I've heard the tuniq tower was the best for the core2quads, but, I haven't seen an equivalent for the i7's.My friend just showed me this Corsair liquid cooler that's only $80. I'm Slightly hesitant to buy anything liquid thats that cheep though. If i can do an easy stable OC to the 3ghz range with an aftermarket cooling system, then I probably will. How's this PCP&C PS look for $110?EDIT: Lower CAS is better right?

August 9, 200916 yr yes, i've heard of the TRUE, however, I've never seen one with the i7 socket type. They started including the 1366 backplate with Rev A of the TRUE. It's listed as compatible with the ASUS P6T Deluxe and other X58 chipset mobos (which are i7-only boards) on their website.CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case

If not, does it have a mounting bracket for one?
August 19, 200916 yr Nice build but you'll be a little let down I think for FSX unless you overclock. I took mine up to stable 3.6 with little effort and it makes the world of difference. August 20, 200916 yr If you must buy an Antec PSU make sure it's a Quattro. Made by the same ODM that manufactures PSUs for Silverstone. Really top-notch stuff.

I would highly suggest an aftermarket fan solution as this processor can run HOT. Event though FSX only uses between 15-30% CPU on average, it will heat up. Scott KGPI

August 22, 200916 yr Get a different PSU. Xion is garbage. PC Power & Cooling, Corsair, Seasonic, OCZ, Silverstone, these are brands you buy PSUs from, if you're serious about building a quality PC that's built to last anyway.
August 22, 200916 yr yeah, gonna get an after market fan soon... want to make sure the cpu runs good first... i hear putting an aftermarket fan on voids the warranty. The Intel cooler that comes with the processor sucks. It cannot keep the processor cool at stock clock speeds under heavy load. You can push it well past 75C using any of those stress tests programs. Scott KGPI
