PMDG 737 a few issues

Featured Replies

Hi guys! Just a quick question regarding the PMDG 737. Now being someone who has travelled on 737's quite a bit ive noticed someting on the 737 id like to change. My 737 in cruise (and at any stage of flight) in LNAV commands turns of up to 30degrees bank, even on some turns that arent that sharp. Wilco airbus series has programmed their airbus to reduce bank to max 15degrees above a certain speed which is very realistic and makes for a very smooth trip! Im fully aware of the bank limiter on the heading knob but this only affects turns in HDG mode. Also turns are quite "twitchy" if anyone knows what I mean. Very stiff. turns arent smooth and the airlerons appear to bounce around quite a bit. Also my nosewheel steering seems to be oversensative. i can make a 90 degree turn on the tarmac on a taxiway by tapping the left rudder key once :( . Love this aircraft to bits but these niggles make me reluctant to fly what is essentially a perfect 737 minus these issues. My questions are:

  • Is there a way to reduce the bank angle? Tried the aircraft.cfg changing it to 25,20 etc... but as far as I know this bird ignores those entrys.
  • Am I running something thats making these turns twitchy?
  • Is there a way to reduce steering sensitivity?

Thanks for any help providedMiles Codrington

I believe you can change the bank angle setting on the MCP... the button under the heading rotating switch allows you to limit the bank angle to a predefined setting...Hope this helps a little...Andrew

As ive said above im aware of the bank angle selection. This only applies for HDG mode it does not apply for LNAV.

Sorry, I somehow didn't notice that minor importrant detail in your post... please accept my apologies...I wasn't aware that the bank angle selector only affected HDG mode...Andrew

No problem! thanks for the speedy reply though! :(

Hey Miles, this was one of my first observations when I started flying the NG years ago. It is a valid point but I was mollified by 737 pilots at the time that the systems modelling was okay but my technique need polishing. One pilot said they will intervene with HDG (with bank angle constraint set) and reset the track to next fix after the turn on those large angle turns. As you may have noticed, the bank angle is not an issue when the change is less than 25-30 deg, and most changes in heading fall into this category.

I see! Ill keep that in mind. How about the nosewheel steering? Any way to "calm it down"? turning 90degrees at 10knots tapping the rudder key once is a bit over the top! :(

Try playing with the keycommand repeat settings. I use a very inexpensive microsoft joystick with a twist axis for rudder/nose steering and never had a problem with sensitivity.

How would I go about that?

MS menu follow controls to keyboard commands. Look for rudder. Since it is a repeating keycommand, you can vary how fast the repeats occur in the right column. I'm not looking at it now, but it is worth your look. Might be it, might not, just a suggestion.
