August 15, 200916 yr I'm loading my addons onto my new Jetline Systems computer (specs below in signature), and so far it's the most unbelieveable piece of equipment I've ever purchased. I will give a full report very soon after I load up on all my complementary FSX programs. So far, I've added FS genesis, GEX, and flown with that. With all sliders to the right for the most part, I'm getting frames at my home airport (KABE) in the consistent 60's, 70's, and 80's. Water is also at maximum. KSEA was giving me frames in the 40's and up. Jetline installed FSX, Acceleration and tested it before shipping. What a great experience that was....the hard work was done...and done right, and then burned in for the appropriate time. But right now, I'm at a crossroads: I have installed REX 1 and I'm currently defragging. I've downloaded REX2, but I'm hesitant to install it because I've heard mixed reviews. I've NEVER had a problem with REX1. I own ASA for weather, but I was hoping to use REX2 for that if it was reliable and not too taxing on a system. What's your advice on REX2? Should I install it or not?Stan

That's good, sensible advice. It makes me confident of the safety of installing REX2. I don't want to install unnecessary programs THIS time around with FSX. Appreciate it.Stan

August 15, 200916 yr i installed REX2 and gave it a try, the interface is still too confusing for me, and some of the things either dont work or take too long So am back to ASA.I tried forever to get my flight plan to show on the REX2 weather thing, hours i tried and no luck, that's just one example. Then couple of things got broken on my fsx install. With ASA working out how to get my flightrplan to show on the weather map was like 5 mins, so REX2 is nothing but textures to me, and ASA weather. In my opinion ASA weather interface and usability is miles ahead of the REX2 stuff still. My advice is make a backup of your fsx folder and other fsx files in document settings before running rex.And make sure to install the rex2 patch.
August 15, 200916 yr Author Congrats on your new system Stan! I'd go with Rex 2 also.Good to hear from you, Geofa. Yeah...I'm like a kid at Christmas. Got it on Thursday, and it's as smooth as glass. FSX is so different when you have such clarity and fluidity. It seems brand new to me. Can't wait to try some of my payware and great freeware planes. Talk to you soon.Stan

August 16, 200916 yr I was using REX 2 for a few days// and then I was hit with a virus and had to rebuild from a backup that got me back to REX 1.So I downloaded REX 2 update and my nightmare began. I thought the REX 2 Update (from their source link) would have had all their patches up to date. But I don't believe so. Since when I ran the update, the exe.xml was missing ..no problem.. I had backed up the exe.xml this time... so I put it back and ran the patch. well... I got CTD. So I now had to uninstall REX 1. I used the Program menu uninstall REX and that messed me up real good. It seems to have deleted my FSX.exe and few other files.. I was unable to start FSX. Thank God, I had backed up my entier FSX directory. so I restored that again. So now, I am back to square 1 with just REX 1. Too scared to update it with any REX 2.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

But the textures are great.I have just completed a 3 day fsx reinstall cause of rex2. Rex2 is not dangerous aslong as you make sure to disable all its weather and related options before you start fsx with rex for first time.I recomend to use rex2 for textures only, if you disable all the weather stuff, then you wount get the weather view tool that was writting to exe.xml.We will wait and see what experience others are having.
