What happened to the ILS Freqs?

Featured Replies

On recent flight to KLGA (La Guardia) and London Heathroe there were NO ILS freqs listed under these airports??? They must have been deleated from where ever they were. How can I find out what the ILS freqs are at these 2 differant airport and "re-enter" them somehow, where ever they go back into my FS2004? Thanks jerrycwo4

In the flightplanner/mapview, can you see the long green ILS arrows by these airports? What do you see when you click on the arrow instead of the airport?

I dont see the green airport "feathers", but when I click on to "Proc" on my Garmin 500 GPS it lists ILS approaches for these airports. How about anyone else........ Does your Fs2004 show ILS freqs for KLGA or EGGL? Thanks jerrycwo4

jerry,Don't know how new you are with FS9, but there are several 'factors' that determine if you can USE the ILS at an airport. The main 'factor' will be with your aircraft cfg (radios, AutoPilot) and then the panel. Some aircraft cfg don't have radios that can 'use' the ILS, or the Flight Director feature for the panel, either. You can see the ILS green 'feather' in GPS, but that doesn't mean your aircraft is capable of doing any ILS approach. Simple as that. The fault is not with FS9, or anything else. Mainly it's up to the modeler to include an ILS enabled radios section, but some overlook it, or 'dumb' it down, such as for older aircraft that did not have that capablility in 'real' life. So look at cfg, then panel cfg, to determine IF aircraft is capable of doing ILS approach under Auto Pilot control. And with no Flight Director you also don't get any ILS landing capability, either. And the frequencies for the airport RUNWAY ILS, and the heading, is found in your 'World \ Map' menu. Click on airport NAME (that shows when you hover cursor over ICAO) to get pop up window, then click on 'Airport'. Hope this helped.Chuck BNapamule

Thanks guys for your reply. I fly the Level-D B767-300 aircraft all over the word at many different airports and most all of them have ILS equipped runways. PLEASE try it YOURSELF for me. It will not take you but a few minutes, then you'll see what I mean. There are NO ILS freqs listed for KLGA and EGLL. Please see if you have them on your computer. jerrycwo4

The default airports have the ILS navaids in the scenery.Have you installed any add-on sceneries for these? Some will replace the default APxxxx.bgl files which contain airports by a small area so anything in that group might be in error if replaced. These default files contain the ILS data that will show on the default GPS and FS map.If AFCAD was used to modify these airports the ILS data will not show up in the default GPS or FS map. Your aircraft should see these however in its nav avionics as long as you are tuned to the correct nav frequency.I am not familiar with the LDS 763. Is it necessary to have the LLZ/ILS in its nav database? Are you tuning the nav radios manually or does the FMC database tune them for you? If its an autotune perhaps there is a discrepancy between the FS scenery frequencies and the FMC database.Download AFCAD v.2.21 from the FS9 Utility library here. Open Airports and let it build its airport/country list. Search for EGLL and see how many layers display. Open the bottom (stock) layer, then select Lists from its menu bar and navaids from the dropdown. That will display the runway navaids and frequencies that should show on the default GPS/FS map and also AI will use them in IMC. Repeat the open airport and search process again. If there is another layer on top of the stock open that layer and repeat the list navaid process. These are what your aircraft (not AI) will see. If the layer does not display runways and taxiways in the diagram ignore that layer and repeat the process to show the layer above and list navaids.Repeat for KLGA.See what you get.You are testing what should be the stock default scenery to see if it was replaced and then checking any add-on scenery navaids.

The ILS frequencies for EGGL Heathrow are: Rwy 27L-09R 109.50 and Rwy 09L-27R 110.3 They ARE in the Fs9 default and in every add-on.If your NAV1 tunes to these frequencies then they will/should work. If not then they have somehow been deleted from your system and you will need to do an install or download an afcad2 add on. In the avsim library there is a "Heathrow 2008 update" which amalgamates free downloades AND has more than 700 taxiway signs in order not to get lost!!Vololiberista

That's the answer ! Both of these default airports have been updated with commercil airports to use Aerosoft's AES system. Thanks for the EGLL freqs. Is the ANY website that I can go to, to get other ILS freqs for the other about 12 airports that I have upgraded? jerrycwo4

One of my best sources is Vroute.info There you can download real flightplans and they have links to relevant aiport scenery and charts. Otherwise just type the ICAO code into Google. That often comes up with good information, For the UK the best source is NATS Go here for all you need to know about EGLL backtrack on the same site for other UK aerodromesVololiberista

You need to see the ILS info embedded in your FS scenery which may not necessarily match real world settings. Let me suggest a method that I use as a standard airport installation so that its scenery information dominates and you can easily modify its included ILS information with AFCAD:Set up on your FS HD partition a folder called AFCAD2S with a scenery subfolder under it such as H:\AFCAD2S\scenery.Go into your airport sceneries and if you find an afcad file in there (by convention AF2_airportcode) move it (not copy it) into this new folder. Go into your FS scenery library settings and add it so it is in position 1. Restart FS so it reindexes the scenery. Any AFCAD in this folder will now have priority because in the original scenery setup for some add-on aircraft or other programs setting up their database an exclude will wipe out the AFCAD data. You now if necessary can go into this folder to view or modify the afcad file as necessary. View this file to get the navaid frequencies in use. As a benefit any new afcad added to this new scenery folder will cause FS to reindex when it starts.
