Decreased shimmer without nHancer?

The other day I made a test disabling the nHancer service and settings. It seems to me that I get a better or at least the same quality with these nVIDIA control panel settings:I nVIDIA control panel settings to:AF: 16xAA gamma correction: OnAA mode: Enhance the application settingAA - Setting: 4xAA - Transparency: SupersamplingConfirmant texture clamp: Use hardwareError reporting: OffExtension limit: OffForce mipmaps: NoneMax pre-render frames: 3Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration: Single display performance modeTexture filtering - Negative LOD bias: ClampTexture filtering - Quality: High QualityThreaded optimization: AutoTriple buffering: OnVertical sync: Force onI'm using the nVIDIA 182.50 driver version. ---------------------------------------------------------While I have not tried out your settings, as have only read this post, I have to tell you that with the latest nHancer, and with Nicks screen masks being followed to the letter...the result is that I have absolutely NO shimmer. Before I had nHancer and in only using the 185.50 masks, I had as much shimmer as I had always had, including my P4 3.4GHz/ATI 1050 Pro days. I took a test flight after setting up for the first time, nHancer (that works with v185.50) and that is when I came back and exclaimed my H.S. statement. Talk about clarity and adding to the perceived REALSIM! Using nHancer did that. Never going back, lol.Cheers.

Nick's screen masks ? = nHancer settings I'm using nHancer 2.5.1 with Nick's settings with 182.50 on GTX 280 and shimmer is still there. I checked Nvidia drivers archive but didn't see a 185.50 driver you refer to above for Vista 64.

I dont think the OP was not questioning if NHANCER worked or not, but wanted people to see if they found not to need nhancer with the settings he posted, thats all.

Ulf,I'll give your settings a shot a little later. What about your FSX settings for AF, I take it you have AA enabled in FSX as well?--Bob

No, I haven't AA enabled in FSX.

Ulf,I am also using the 182.50's. Using just the NVIDIA Control Panel with your provided settings I experience more shimmering on my system than I do utilizing Nhancer. I believe the reason for this is the AA and more so the 8xs setting which is available for use via Nhancer's available settings but not directly supported by NVIDIA. I also tried some other combinations of AA via just the NVIDIA Control Panel and the results on my system were the same (more pronounced shimmering).Regards,Bob

Thanks Bob. I have to do some more testing with my setup. This is strange.

"Nick's screen masks ?" My question precicely. What (and who) are you talking about?I ask because although I am using a highly recommended FS9 profile for nHancer, shimmer seems to be returning. And another thing - and the reason I came to this thread in the first place: nHancer is not starting with FS9: I have the executable there in the box (from my destop icon) but when I open nHancer after FS it.s not running the correct profile.thanks,Nicholas
