Yeah, i always thought that it was a bit 'easier' to fly regarding the instruments and the VC. Im nearing the 747x...
I'll cast my vote in favour of the 747X. Both aircraft are well-modeled, although the MD-11 definitely has an edge in both visual model quality (my opinion) and performance.I own both aircraft, but I don't really like the MD-11. Don't get me wrong, PMDG did an amazing job on this aircraft, I just don't like the aircraft itself. Its systems, to me, seem arcane compared to Boeing aircraft. Boeing's systems are simple and well-laid out, fairly easy to learn. The AoA training DVD is great for the 747X.Just my opinion...-Andrew Noble

excellent, two opposing :( ........ tell me why, then i'll take it as a proper vote

Go for the MD-11 - it is very easy to learn with all the automation. When you start getting bored enable random failures, that will force you to learn how the systems really work, case by case.I don't own the AoA training DVD, but ITVV sells excellent cockpit DVDs for both the MD-11 and the 747-400.The MD-11 comes with a widescreen 2D panel, the 747 only has a 4:3 panel (both have VCs of course, but I like flying airliners in 2D).Having cast my vote, I suspect you will end up doing what I did - get both. There is only a handful of really in-depth addon airliners available for FS anyway.

i am most likely going for the 747, because i always admired it and that the vc is much more clearer, and it does not relie very hevily on automation

I vote the 747. Why?1) I think there is more info on the internet about the 7472) If you get the Boeing FMS down pat, you have a working knowledge of all of the 700 series Boeings (73, 74, 75, 76, and 777)3) I have been simming with the 747-400 series for awhile, and the "lights off means everything is OK" design found on the MD11 is not what I'm used to at all4) Not too many airlines use the MD11. If you are a stickler for realism then it may be hard to fly a large variety of real life routes with that aircraft (but then again it's not like I see 747's all day at EWR...)5) As stated, you have to do some of the work in the 747, the MD11 is a lot more automatedIMO, the best reason for the 747 would be reason number 2 if you are going to go further in the Flight Sim hobby. With all of the above stated, I LOVE the MD11. I just think the 747 would be serve as a better vehicle to be introduced to complex aircraft in FSX (FS9).Shane
