September 6, 200916 yr Hi,I've two questions regarding the Navdata ...1.) After installing my J41 I noticed that the Navdata is not new. It still is 08/08. It that correct? Or did the installer not overwrite the old Navdata from the MD-11?2.) Is it possible to buy a single update from Navigraph? I don't want monthly updates but I'd love to update ... say ... twice a year. Does Navigraph offer single packages?Best regards, Oliver
September 6, 200916 yr http://www.navigraph.com/www/fmsdata_about.aspYour best bet would be to buy the smallest package (5 updates). No matter what package you buy, you're forced to use it within 270 days. That way you get 5 updates in 2/3rds of a year, say jan-sept. IMO it's a disgusting business policy. I think Navigraph is a greedy and unfriendly company. BTW this is not saying that their employees are bad people. And Navigraph does provide a service that's needed. But I for one buy "credits" as rarely as I can.So to answer in short:1) I have no idea. I think you're right though, PMDG would probably bundle an airac with the product. 2) No you can't buy a single update. They do not sell single packages. Their smallest is 100 credits = 10 Euros = $14 .
September 6, 200916 yr Gents,I believe Ryan answered this in another post. PMDG attempted to contact Navigraph some time ago in order to get the current package for release, but never heard back from them. I don't recall what navdata comes with the JS41, since I've updated mine to 0909.Tore is right, there's no single package option at Navigraph, but look at it this way -- if you want the current stuff, you'll have it for about five months if you buy the minimum from Navigraph. If you don't want to update your navdata every month, then 0808 is probably just fine. September 6, 200916 yr Author Well 0808 is older than a year. I'm not the absolute freak that needs the very latest but something 'reasonable'. I did not buy an update because I thought I'd get a newer cycle with the J41. I was a bit surprised that this was not the case. On the other hand the MD-11 was priced more 'exclusive' so I guess that's ok.

September 6, 200916 yr There is no free data anymore.I pay a small amount every 56 days to update my sidstar collection, which I provide free to you but its not free to me.Governments are increasing user fees across the board. This topic is for a different venue. Dan Downs KCRP
September 6, 200916 yr I'm not saying it should be free, I do remember the good old days when this was free thanks to some hard working enthusiasts. Of course they should be payed for the products they make. Navigraph airacs are wonderfully made and are much more complete and bug-free than the old freeware versions. But I AM saying that simply taking someone's money when they haven't spent it in time is wrong. I really disagree with the whole "spend it all within 270 days or lose it". If there is money unspent at the end of that period, they simply take it. (Well, "credits" actually, since it sounds more fancy and less of a robbery than the word "money").
September 6, 200916 yr The free data we used to get was free because they could get the source data for free. That changed a few years ago hence why Navigraph charges for the data. Personally the credits system works just fine for me, I pay a small amount up front and don't have to worry about bringing out the credit card every update cycle. It's cheap, it's easy to install, good enough for me. David V
