  1. Ya seems that way, I do like having the wheel but I can live without it as the electric trim works well with their custom system.
  2. Has anyone figured out how to get the Saitek Cessna Trim wheel to work with the NGX?
  3. I'm flying in Canada where we do use inches not QNH. Superglide unfortunately that setting is to inches already. FSX general settings is to US system as well.
  4. The Flightwatch / ATIS with AS2012 is giving me the altimeter setting in QNH not Inches, how do I change this?
  5. Every once in a while I get a crash of FSX, the error message refers to g3d.dll (or something like that) and then an error box comes up saying "This feature rquires that {smartassembly} is available on this computer."I'm trying to figure out what is causing it - I haven't been able to directly reproduce it and it only happens once every 5-10 hours or something. It doesn't seem to matter what aircraft I'm using so it's not that (was using Carenado Caravan) wasn't flying online so not that. What I do use every flight is Activesky Enhanced and Ultimate Traffic 2, along with the Saitek Autopilot panel software. Anyone know what causes this?Any help is appreciated.
  6. Figured it out - just had to go into the device manager (I'm still used to the fdisk days lol). Formatted when I added the partition.
  7. Got my new system up and running, in device manager it shows both SSD drives, but it only assigned one to the C: drive, the other isn't visible as a drive to use. Any ideas??
  8. Not sure what I want to do in the future so I figure a 1000w will futureproof me well. What about this one? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139007And yes fellow Canuck :)System will be ASUS P6X58D / i7 950 (to be OC'd to 4.2ghz) / 6 gigs Muskin redline / single Geforce GTX 480 / twin SSD's
  9. Just curious what a good 1000W PSU is (going to use a Coolermaster HAF 932 full tower case so needs long cables). Someone recommended this one - thoughts?http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341028
  10. 3 days until payday, which means 3 days until I buy the parts for my new system Anyhow just curious which GTX 480 I should go for (prices are all Canadian)EVGA "standard" $480http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130552MSI Twin Frozr II (twin fan) $500 (looks like it was just released, no reviews on Newegg yet)http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127526EVGA Superclocked (factory overclocked) $505http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130551Zotac AMP! 11. Thanks for the replies everyone.Decided to go with twin SSD's (one OS / programs - one pure FSX). Read some articles on them and seems they are worth it - and in heavy use most still have over a decade of life in them so not too worried about that considering i upgrade every 2 years on average anyways.
  12. Building new system trying to decide on hard drive setup.Figure I'll do one SSD for the OS and games and a separate drive for FSX.For FSX is an SSD going to be better than a WD Velociraptor? Space isn't a big deal, my current install is 32 gigs for FSX, so I figure 128GB will be plenty for the drive. How do you tell what a good SSD is, what specs do I look for on it etc.? Any particular standout brands / drives?
  13. Looking to build a new system and OC the CPU to 4-4.2 ghz (whatever ends up being stable, using a Noctua D14 fan).Anyhow there's only a $30 diff between a 930 and a 950 - should I go with the 950? Any difference for OCing? Figure 950 is better but want to be sure.
  14. Ya decided to ditch alienware altogether and just build myself. I'm prob going with an i7 950 since it's a third of the price of the 980, I can upgrade later.
  15. I'm looking at buying an Alienware system (I know building yourself can be cheaper but I'm looking at financing and that's not available with that route).Primary reason for the PC is FSX - I want something that will run detailed aircraft over ORBX scenery with lots of weather and traffic at good framerates basically. I also play World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2, plus add Diablo 3 whenever it comes out.Just have a few questions and need some advice on a few things....For processors I'm looking at either...Overclocked Intel® Core™ i7 980x Extreme Six Core Processor (4.0GHz, 12MB Cache) orOverclocked Intel® Core™ i7 980x Extreme Six Core Processor (3.73GHz, 12MB Cache) Is the 4ghz over 3.73 going to give me a big difference? For Ram I'm looking at 12GB probably - is 1600mhz that much better than 1333?Video cards I've long been an nvidia fan but if ATI is on top of the game I can switch, which card is better?Single 2GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon™ HD 5970 orSingle 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 480 Will a crossfire or SLI setup hinder FSX? I believe it wont' help but I play other games that would take advantage so would having dual cards hurt my FSX performance? For the hard drives I'm looking at...600GB RAID 0 (2x 300GB SATA-II, 10k RPM, 16MB Cache HDDs) Again RAID 0 afaik won't help FSX but does for other stuff - again would it hurt me to have it?Just curious any other thoughts people have (other than build your own, again not an option unless newegg offers financing lol).
  16. I'd like to invite everyone to check out our new Virtual Airline - PNWAir. We fly General Aviation and Commuter Turboprop aircraft on routes that cover the entire FTX PNW scenery and we're looking for pilots. We have our own website http://www.pnwair.com and forums, and are based in the FSEconomy community (More info on FSEconomy is on our website for those not familiar with it). We are working on getting Vatsim Certification but flying online is completely optional. If you are interested in joining please stop by and take a look!If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email - david@pnwair.com
  17. The Carenado avionics seem to match well the avionics in every real Cessna I've ever flown. The only time I've seen a G1000 Cessna is at aviation trade shows, the vast majority of them still have the mix'n'match of old avionics. New Cessna's come with the G1000 of course but I don't see many of those around. A G1000 set can be worth almost as much as some of the older Cessna airframes, doesn't make sense to install in them and those are the models Carenado models. Now a Garmin 430 on the F33 Bonanza they are making would be a good fit, but it's easy enough to install the RXP unit with full functionality instead. I'd rather see Carenado spend their time making a good variety of light GA planes (which almost no one else is doing anymore it seems) and leave the avionics to the avionics vendors. In the end if you don't like it, just don't buy it. There's plenty of us who like them as they are. Here's a pic of the panels of the planes I fly for reference...
  18. I'd also love to see a Piper Aztec - probably will be doing my multi rating on oneAs well a Cessna 185 and DeHavilland Single Otter (Radial engine) would be great :)
  19. Hello,I'm planning to buy a Garmin 296 GPS for my real world flying but I'd like to also have it set up to work with flightsim so I can learn the unit inside out on the ground instead of when I should be watching for traffic.Anyways I've seen several people mention they can get their Garmin 296 to work with GPSOut, but almost all use the serial cable connection to do it. I've also seen others mention they can get it to work via the USB cable hookup.I'd much rather use the USB cable as A ) the GPS can use external power when on USB unlike with Serial, I'd rather not use up battery cycles on flightsim and B ) my computer doesn't have a serial port, and between the proprietary Garmin cable I'd need for serial plus a serial to USB adapter it would be $100.It seems the only thing I need to figure out to get it to work via USB is to figure out the USB Port # for the Garmin, which apparently can be fairly cryptic - certainly not Com1 Com2 etc. Does anyone know how to figure out what the port number is? Better yet does anyone have a Garmin 296 working with GPSout via USB?Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
  20. I'm getting a wierd gray visual anomaly outside my front captain windscreen after SP1 (see screenshots). Its gray and right in the center of the captains windscreen and it changes shape as you move the view around.
  21. Very glad to see navaids north of 60 are all working now, this makes a HUGE difference for my flying, vc rain effect is a great bonus too - thanks :)
  22. tested bout the multi panel with the JS-41. Fortunately the two will coexist just fine without interference, and it will control the NAV course, IAS and VS functions but won't do anything for heading or altitude. It's so nice to have a proper trim wheel for flightsim now, couldn't imagine flying in the real world without one so its nice to have in flightsim as well. (Yes I know there's electric trims in the real world but not in the 172s I fly and I can't see them being as precise as a wheel, seems its much the same in the sim - I can easily trim to the exact knot airspeed in a climb I want with the trim wheel on the multi panel).PMDG can you please look at full integration with the Saitek hardware? Saitek has a custom module so it should be possible if you work together, would be greatly appreciated!
  23. Just picked up the multi panel, esp for having a trim wheel. Would be nice to see full integration
