September 8, 200916 yr Hi everyoneMy computer died and I have been researching what to upgrade to. I have decided to wait until Windows 7 becomes available in Oct and thought that the i7 920+OC certainly seems the way to go at the moment. My question is that the top of the line i7 is currently the 975 - is there likely to be any further development in the i7 series or is there likely to be a new series of processor and motherboards to follow shortly. If there is a totally new series i figure the i7 975 might drop quite a bit in price. Would i be better to grab the i7 920 now or wait till the next big thing surfaces so i can pick up the 975 at a more realistic price? I have never OC'd a computer and a little nervous about it.I want to be able to run the PMDG J41 and the Flight 1 Mustang at good frames and nice and smooth.Interested in your thoughts.CheersBarra Regards Barra i7 7700K, 16GB 3200MHz DDR4, GTX1070 OC 8GB, 1TB Samsung SSD for OS and P3D4.4, W10 64Bit, Corsair H115i Water Cooling
September 8, 200916 yr I'll second the question----what's on the horizon as far as major advancement in cpu horsepower. There used to be a guy (Sam D17) that was touting the next major advancement called *Sandy Bridge*. He said this would be the next really significant advancement since the Q6600 @ 3.6Gz. I'm not all that happy with my [email protected]/GTX 8800 Ultra; and I am not really sure that the I7 series is all that much better, so I would like to wait for the next big step forward. Anyone know what's coming and when??Bruce
September 8, 200916 yr They have the new intel cpus out today the Lynnfield CPU. The prices are good not sure how they will work in FSX.
September 8, 200916 yr Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing some reviews from the new i7 870 CPU. Its a shame that its a different socket tho as it means a new MB is required as well.Maybe those boards will take a while to mature...
