September 9, 200916 yr Hello,I've got the Gainward GTX260 running on Enhanced mode with the Gainward software. According to the manual, this overclocked setting is garunteed to run in any system - just a bit of background info there :). Anyway, I'm on the 182.50 drivers just now and as you can see from the attatched image I'm experiencing some strange phenomena. When installing the 182.50 drivers a week or so ago, I didn't uninstall my previous drivers. With my limited knowledge I think that decision may be coming back to haunt me. I also can't get into Safe mode due to the fact I've got a dual boot with XP and Vista, Vista being installed last therefore the default boot system, and doesn't allow the extra options such as safe mode etc. to be accessed for XP (Only shows in the list as 'Older version of windows'). This in turn means that any attempt to uninstall and run Drivercleaner will leave some files behind.Help much appreciated,Andrew. Andrew McCluskey
September 9, 200916 yr You don't need drivercleaner to uninstall a driver properly. Simply run the uninstaller from the control panel, delete the nvidia folder on the root of the partition that contains your Windows directory, reboot, and reinstall.
September 10, 200916 yr Puffmac,You have not given full details of your system. The screenshot you posted is of FSX running out of memory or of your system being to heavily taxed by FSX. What OS are you runnning and how much memory do you have in your system? You can try to reducing your sliders especially autogen. This has nothing to do with your video driver. What you are seeing are commonly referred to as "Autogen Spikes".
September 10, 200916 yr also remove the bufferpool tweek if you have it in your config. I have the Nvidia 260 superclocked edition and it hates bufferpools. Jim Wenham
September 10, 200916 yr Author For the above poster who requested the specs:i7 @ 3.825 GHz6GB Patriot Viper 1600MHz RAMGTX 260 Gainward650W Akasa PSUI did previously state that it's XP and I'll further clarify that it's 32bit professional. Another thing to note is I've been running it fine until I nudged the base clock up from 190 - where it's been for the past few weeks - to 191. I didn't change the vcore voltage from the settings that were working with 190, so bringing up the vcore a bit might also be a possibility. The RAM is at 1.64v.Cheers,Puffmac. Andrew McCluskey
September 10, 200916 yr Puffmac,Here is a link to Nick Needhams advice on how to setup FSX: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041I get the same problem with my pc if I set the display settings too high in FSX. What happens if yo do this: Lower your display settings (no bloom, autogen at normal, single cloud layer and AI-traffic at 10% (no ground traffic or ships). Limit your fps to 30. Do you still get the abnormal texturing?
September 10, 200916 yr PuffmacHopefully, someone will come along and tell us if your 32bt XP will use all 6gb of ram. You may need the 3gb switch. I've had to do this on my Vista 32 bit. On my system I can only OC my 260 a very small amount. Not sure I can tell the difference. "guaranteed to run on any system"? Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

BobYes XP 32bit only recognises 3gb of RAM, however since it's in tri-channel one would assume there is still some sort of benefit. I've had reports for people taking the 260 up to crazy speeds of 720 on the core clock, however I've been able to get 673,1250,1451 and although not outstanding, still provides a noticeable performance boost. In reference to your confusion about Enhanced Mode; Gainward Gold Edition cards come factory overclocked. Enhanced mode is the name given to this overclock setting. It is garunteed by them to run on any setup. There is an option for Safe Mode which I presume are the default speeds.I have also taken the base clock on the i7 back down to 190 and will let you know how it goes.Cheers,Andrew Andrew McCluskey
September 10, 200916 yr Author Problem solved. Upped the voltage on the RAM from 1.64v to 1.66v, and the vcore from 1.285 to 1.293 incase anyone is interested. Also on a base clock of 192 now. Once I get my new case with decent cooling i'll take it to 200, which will give me optimal RAM timings and speed due to the XMP profile :). It's quite a good feeling to see FSX running brilliantly at 30fps anywhere with any aircraft before my computer has even reached it's full potential!Cheers,Andrew Andrew McCluskey
