September 10, 200916 yr I read though the pinned "Scenery Design" thread at the top of the forum and noticed that several of the links to various scenery programs were dead or for FS9. I'm not a scenery designer (and honestly, don't really want to be as I would rather fly FSX than fix it), however, there are some things I would like to adjust and/or change at my home airport. In real life, I am the airport manager for KHUT. In my "pretend simulated" life, I am a busy FBO manager with multiple flights in and out of KHUT (using FSEconomy). FSX's rendering of KHUT isn't awful, but it is in need of some tweaking. Taxiway's and signs, default buildings/hangars and tree's all need to be removed or adjusted. What would be my best bet for a program/programs that would allow me to do this? In FS9, I used to have a program called Easy Scenery Creator, or something like that? I could hit a key combo while in FS9 and place objects from a library that was updated every few months. Is that program still around? Thanks for any help. And, if I can get KHUT setup correctly, I'd love to share it with anyone that would want it. If you really fly into the airport (real life), I'll buy you lunch at the Airport Steakhouse. :( Dondo
September 10, 200916 yr Author Update -- Seems with a little bit of research, Flight1 seems to have everything I want (and more).AFX Airport Facilitator X and Instant Scenery.Guess those pretty much cover everything I'd want to do. Any opinions on ease of use and how stable they are with FSX?
September 10, 200916 yr I use both programs with FS9 and am very happy with them. I can't comment on how well they work with FSX, though. You should also check out Airport Design Editor. It's free...http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/index.htmlI've not tried ADE myself yet (it's only just recently been made compatible with FS9), but I've used a number of programs from the same author (Jon Masterson) and found them to be very well done.Good luck. Scenery design is lots of fun when it's not causing you to tear your hair out. :(
September 10, 200916 yr I would recommend taking a look at ADE9x -- works for both fs9 and fsx. Support is here:http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=95It just so happens KHUT was used in the beta testing, so there is some familiarity with that airport.scott s..
September 11, 200916 yr By all means get ADE9x !!It is far better than the payware products and it is free.
September 11, 200916 yr Author sigh...well, here I was thinking that I could get ADE up and running in no time. These are the events, as they happened....<sigh>Installed FS SDK off the Deluxe version of the FSX diskDownloaded ADE and installed.Tried to apply ADE update, realized that I didn't have tooTried to run it, nothing.Started checking to make sure I had .NET installed, turns out I didn't.Downloaded and installed .NET 3.5Tried to run ADE, nothing.Figured out .NET 3.5 is an update to 2.0, uninstalled .NET, installed .NET 2.0, updated to 3.5Tried ADE, nothing.Read instructions again, realized I needed the SDK for SP2 FSX.Uninstalled SDK from FSX diskDownloaded SP2 SDK, installed.Tried ADE, nothing.Looked again, seems SP2 SDK is an update to the disk version SDKUninstalled SP2 SDK, reinstalled disk SDK.Tried to install SP2 SDK, wouldn't work, said I needed to update to SP1, then SP2.Got tired, went to bed.Dang.....all I wanted were some tree's and some fences.
September 11, 200916 yr There is a little program that is part of the install named ADE-check.exe (ADE environment checker) that will check your system to see if you have all the bits installed that are needed for ADE9x to work. I know many people don't really want .net, but so many software developers use .net framework these days that you are really limiting yourself if you don't use any .net apps.It would have been nice if MS had done a better job of releasing the sdks, but I guess there isn't any one to complain to now.scott s..
September 11, 200916 yr Author Any issues with Win7 and ADE? I'm going to try reinstalling ADE (I finally got the SDK's all sorted out) and I ran the ADE_Checker and fixed all the issues with that. When I dbl click the ADE shortcut, I get 'Access Denied', then a little blank window opens up. I'm running a Dell i7 945, 8 gig ram, Win7 64 RC1. Guess I can try the compatibility modes.Dondo
September 12, 200916 yr You probably need to find the "Airport Design Editor.exe" file open the properties and set "run as administrator".scott s..
