September 13, 200916 yr Hi Gents,I've settled on a chip choice by upgrading from a Q9650 to an i7920 (d0) SLBEJ CPU. I'm a bit of a PMDG MD-11 fan and am not overly happy with the framerates at major airports, I've tried overclocking my Q9650 and it has been a struggle to say the least. My Graphics card is a nVidia 285 and I'm running Vista 64 ultimate and will be upgrading to Win7 64bit on its release. Now, what motherboard and memory would you recommend to enable the easiest and highest overclocking level. My system is watercooled so there should be no cooling issues for the CPU.ThanksGreg Greg B
September 13, 200916 yr As for the motherboard I'd say the asus p6t v2 deluxe. This is the board I was reffered to when my system was built. supposed to really good for clocking! As for the RAM I went with ocz ddr3 1600 CL7. I don't know much about RAM but my guy says it's great. Hope this helps! "To most the sky is the limit but to me it's home" Rick Harms (CYVR) i7 [email protected] (for now) asus p6t v2, 6gb ocz 1600 CL7 ram. BFG 285 oc, vista 64, Samsung 52" 1080p lcd track IR5. PMDG j41, 747-400x, 747-8i/f, NGX.......Finally!!!!

September 15, 200916 yr I would recommend an Asus. I have the Rampage II Extreme and I am very happy with it. With the new bios it can run the 975 too.Running Corsair 6GB tri-channel CL7, CPU at 4.0 right now. Doesn't even get hot. I noticed that cooling the CPU a lot will lower the NB temp too.Solid as a rock. If you are a serious o/c'r, then check it out.
September 21, 200916 yr ASUS is getting alot of bad press about substandard boards, quality control maybe lacking nowadays.
September 21, 200916 yr ASUS is getting alot of bad press about substandard boards, quality control maybe lacking nowadays. Can you back this up in the form of a link? I prefer Gigabyte boards over Asus but I certainly haven't heard anything about sub-standard boards, and I work in the industry and follow numerous enthusiast forums.
