Improving fS9

Featured Replies

For a while now I've had problems with stuttering on FS9. I have an HP laptop with these specs:Intel Core Duo T5750 @ 2ghz (I realize this could be bringing me down)3 GB RamVista 32 Geforce 8600M GSMy performance in clouds and at complex airports suck. I'm in the process of downloading vista SP2 and defragging and the whole works. Is it true that with vista 32 that I can only use 2 gb per app or RAM? If so is there a workaround for this? What are some other tips and tweaks I can do to help with my performance?

This is the same system I had (because of a failure in one of the RAM slots, I ended up limited to 2GB RAM and because of that limitation, I upgraded to Windows 7 RC), except that mine is a Dell and has a Nvidia 8400M GS. As far as I remember, I had no stutters at all with FS9. Well, maybe in FlyTampa's Kai Tak, but that's another story. But I'm not so interested in having real clouds, so I'm using ActiveSky's 64x64 DXT3 cloud textures, and in FS9's set up, I've set Detailed Clouds, 10% 3D, instead of the default 1024x1024 32-bit. Maybe I'm cheating, but it works for me. A well defragged hard disk helps.Talking about FlyTampa's Kai Tak, in my system, with my setup, I've found that my sweet spot (no stutters at all) in that scenery is when locking FPS at 22. As always, your mileage may vary. And for Opa, your link didn't work: I ended up in SimAviation Forums index page.
