And my experience is that there indeed is a problem with round gauges clearly looking oval. You notice it right away. I have heard about this for FS9 but it's the same in FSX. And I thought FSX was fully widescreen compatible. In FS9 I think I remember someone mentioning a simple solution. Just resize the 2D panel. But that was tricky since the side parts of the screen looks weird. I have seen this in F1 C172 and FSD Panther. But in the PMDG 747-400 I didn't find the three round gauges oval at all. How do you widescreen users do about this?

There is a setting in fsx.cfg file for this - WideViewAspect or similar. Enable it ('True') and everything should be OK

I did that but it didn't help

The 'WideViewAspect' setting does nothing. Choose a resolution that will allow the 2D cockpit to look good. It doesn't have to be perfect. OR use the VC as much as possible.

If the setting does nothing why does it exist? Lowering resolution to a conventional non widescreen resolultion gives me black unused band at the edges. That is as distrurbing as oval gauges. Similary with resizing the 2d panle. So yes it seems I will be using VC more. But also some planes 2D panels does not seem affected like PMDG 747-400. Also I got a program called FSpanelstudio. Shoudn't that be able tur the gauges widescreen compatible?

My solution to this problem was a little different but it might also work for you:I now use a DualHead2Go with 2 x 1920 x 1200 screens so my overall view has to be 3840 x 1200 which clearly will make any 2D panel look horrible - the solution was to make a 'new' panel with the right aspect ratio and now have a 'jumpseat' view with the monitor bezels carefully alligned to the windscreen centre post...The aircraft in question was the BAe146 from Aerosoft and initially I just made a wider bmp and moved the existing gauges, leaving the FO panel with blank gauges. Over time though, I added various gauges (some I wrote myself) and improved the graphics to arrive at the final result in the link below...http://www.tapiopix.com/GCS0174_big.jpgFor the original, see the following link...http://www.aerosoft.de/shop-rd/bilder/scre.../ewbae146_2.jpgI did all my gauge moving / manipulation manually and it took a lot of time but if you have FSPanelStudio that should make this kind of project a lot easier. OBVIOUSLY, if you go and modify a panel from a payware plane, you can NEVER share it anywhere without the permission of the manufacturer...Geoff
