September 29, 200916 yr Hi there! After 1hr+ flying i get these texture changes in fs 9.1 with all aircraft. (DF 727, RealAir Scout, default DC-3 for sure)Everithing is maxed out in FS, except visibility and cloud draw distance are set to 80 miles.Video settings are also maxed 16x AF, 16xHQ AA, mipmaps on quality.Tested 1600x1200 and 1280x1024 full screen. FPS unlimited. No problems with performance, never drops below 35-40, normally at 80 FPS.My specs: intel c2d e8400 no ocgigabyte geforce 9600gt passive cooling no oc. driver 181.224 gigs ramxp pro 32bitAfter this happens opening fsnavigator or switching to desktop is really slow, sometimes the textures come back but the sideffects remain until I reboot. The cpu is cold as a stone, the vidcard approx 65-70 degs max normally 50CNo other game is affected AFAIK.I think this happens involving weather, cloudy rainy, sometimes the ranidrops textures change too, instruments appear on ground textures.PLZ help! I'm despereate...A screenie:
September 29, 200916 yr Yeap, it look like your graphic card is overheating.I see that you are using 1600x1200 with 16xAA and 16AF, with FPS to unlimited. Your GPU simply can't keep up, with those settings. Lower AA & AF to 4. You allready have HIGH resolution, you don't need high AA & AF. Lower resolution, higher AA&AF, higher resolution, lower AA&AF. Simple as that. And limit FPS to some normal value. Like 45, for example. Leave GPU some space to do something else, instead of try to reach 100FPS. My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....
September 29, 200916 yr Thanks for the quick replies!I have a few questions for you...I see what you ment, but i never thought, that it is so easy to overheat my graphics card on stock clocks.I checked the cooling ribs and they are clean. What are normal temperatures for a gf9600gt?Regarding to the unlimited fps, if i lower it the game starts to lose it's now perfect smoothness. Even at 40.Do you think the instruments apppearing on ground related to this?I try to confirm the heat problem with realtemp.Peter

That's with the fan turned up to 100% and a heavy overclock.I also have my e8500 overclocked to 3.6 and don't let it get above 67C - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

You test the settings and watch the temps? Or there is a setting for this? Or software?Sorry for the noobish question, but I am a lamer at this stuff as it turns out.
September 29, 200916 yr How do you "not let" them over a specific temp? You test the settings and watch the temps? Or there is a setting for this? Or software?Sorry for the noobish question, but I am a lamer at this stuff as it turns out.Well i use nhancer to set the video card settings, and I use RivaTuner to overclock and monitor temps. To overclock, I bring up the monitor in RivaTuner, overclock my card, and run a demanding game for about 30 minutes while the temps are logging. I then look at the highest temp. RivaTuner also lets you manually control the fan speed on your card. My was set at 33% by default....I run it at 100% when gaming..you can imagine the difference. RivaTuner also has a plugin you can download that lets it monitor your CPU temps. Those temps are controlled by settings the voltage for it in BIOS, but since you didn't overclock your CPU, dont worry about it too much...unless you didn't seat your fan and heatsink on your CPU properly. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
September 30, 200916 yr Thank you for all the help!Well, the problem seems to be solved for now, I reduced my settings and gpu temp stabilized at 51C, no texture mixups after 2x1 hour of flying in real weather. The performance and look are ok but was better. 8)My testing raised another question:I realized, that in windowed mode my graphics card "derates" itself. GPU and mem frequencies are lower in windowed than in fullscreen? Is this normal? When I fly online, I tend to use windowed mode because of the many task switches. How others do this? Can I, or should I do something about this? (the lower frequencies)Peter
September 30, 200916 yr Well when running in window mode, you lose AA and AF so the graphics won't look as smooth and the card won't have to work as hard, thats probably what you're noticing. Also, did you try to use RivaTuner? You shouldnt have to turn down your card from default just to keep it from overheating. Have you tried running the default clock and turning the fan up to 100% in RivaTuner? Again, Nvidia limits fan speed by default so it won't stay as cool as it can. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

Again, Nvidia limits fan speed by default so it won't stay as cool as it can.I noticed that in windowed mode there are no AA and AF, by the way, I don't turn it down, it is done automaticly. (According to gpu-z indications.)I haven't tried rivatuner, but my card has passive cooling, as I mentioned in my original post i think. And here is the problem:i tried to fly again, and the gpu started to overheat again. I stopped when reached 66C. Now the AA is down to 8Q, the resolution is 1280x1024. Still too high temps according to your advices. What should I do?
September 30, 200916 yr Hello Piel,By "passive cooling" I assume you are running one of those cards that advertises silent operation and does not have a cooling fan? If so, then additional case fans/ventilation should be considered. For example; check the front of the case for an intake fan, and that the airflow is unobstructed on it's path toward your gfx card. Then check for exhaust fans that are positioned as such that they draw the heat away from the gfx card and outside the case. Not to encourage smoking, but if you have a clear case panel, holding a lit cigarrete, near the intake and observing the smoke's course thru the case, will immediately show you the effectiveness of your ventilation scheme. If your ventilation is indeed inadequate; in additon to standard case fans, there are also 'specialty fans' available, which can be mounted at strategic locations within the case and their direction adjusted in order to provide the best possible airflow to your components. There are also 'slot fans' which may be positoned in the adjacent slot to your gfx card, that will provide additional airflow directly to/from the source. In the meantime, you might try running without the side panel; this will also confirm if you do indeed have a heat problem, before you start purchasing a bunch of fans needlessly.Good luck ~ Rudi
September 30, 200916 yr For the record, I use 65C as a personal restriction. I believe my card can go as high as 80 or 90C before actually causing a meltdown. You may want to try to find specific info for your card. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
October 1, 200916 yr I'm running, for now until Windows 7 comes out and I get a new system, a single-core Pentium 4 3.2, 2 G's RAM and an Nvidia 7950GT 512 VRAM GPU. I usually run FS9 at 1600 X 1200 with 8X AA and 4X AF. Yes the frame rate chokes to 10FPS at times, but I put up with it for now because I like how things look and PMDG panels look the best at that resolution. My card's temp usually runs at 57 C without any graphics problems while running FS9.There is one factor that may determine how hot your card gets that you might not have factored in. Depending on the room temperature, my card temp will vary anywhere between 54C when the room is at 68F/20C in the winter up to 60C or higher when the room is at 75F/24C in the summer. I've considered moving my computer to a north facing room in my house to keep the rig running cooler. You may want to measure your room temperature and see if it's too warm.Kim
October 1, 200916 yr Good morning all!I removed the side panel and the temp started to rise even with no load on the card. 65C at idle... I put it back and cooled down to 47.I also performed a 1 hour test flight, and noticed something. As I broke through the overcast the temp went up to 72 C but after that it cooled to 51-55.I also looked my case, and the airflow seems to be ok. I have only 1 HD and 2 cards in my comp. 2 big case fans, and my PSU has a blowout fan too.The room temp is pretty cool now as I am cold. 8)I checked some forums, and others reported overheating more severe than I had.Ideas? Thanks for all the replies guys! Keep it up! 8)
October 1, 200916 yr If you're into gaming in general, it may be worth while replacing your video card with on intended for gaming. you'll be much happier in the end. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
