Recommend an ATC add-on

Featured Replies

I have been using FSX with the GEX, UTX, REX combo for quite a while now, and I love it. It really takes the experience to a whole new level. It's been a while, and I think I can justify spending some money on another major add-on. I'm wondering what people recommend as far as ATC add-ons. I would prefer something that is as close to real communication as possible. I plan on getting a pilots license in the next 5-10 years, and am kinda using FSX to become familiar with the things other than the "feeling" of flying. I know it doesn't prepare you for what it's really like, but I have heard it will really give you a leg up on the "book smarts" of flying. So what would you guys recommend? Radar Contact is the only program I have heard of. It sounds pretty great, but I'm hesitant to spend the money without trying it (can't exactly look at screenshots like you can with other types of add-ons).

If it is not the ambiance but rather the realism of the workload is what you are after then there are only two valid choices as both RC and PFE uses button presses to simulate ATC responses (not entirely realistic)1/ Use one of the online networks - VATSOM or IVAO - but only during one of the events when all ATC positions are full for a given airport or region.2/ Use VoxATC which is worldwide coverage with spoken ATC however be prepared to fiddle with voice recognition for a while. The button pressing / menu choice options are indeed Radar Contact (not simulating VFR in its current incarnation) and Proflight Emulator.Alex

The "SuperATC" free program from the maker of It's Your Plane (Robert Cesar) offers voice control of Radar Contact too now (previously the full product, IYP did).RegardsPete

I highly recommend Proflight Emulator Deluxe (PFE) together with FDC Live Cockpit. They both include the option to fully auto mode or manual, different accents and great back up.
