Does anyone know any of the group at FSD International? I recently purchased the P-38 Lightning for FSX, which I really enjoy, but it has a few problems I would like to report. Unfortunately, my registration on their forum system didn't work right or there is a problem with the automation, because I never received a password confirmation. When I contacted them they told me my account was confirmed and I was free to use the forums. Again, no password via email. So, I fire off a second email and the response was very visceral, as if it was my fault the system wasn't working and I, the customer, are the party that is doing it wrong. Okay, I know that the guys are busy and have limited time, but this is no way to run a business and I just want the plane (that I paid premium dollars for) to work right. So technical support is unresponsive and I have no where else to go. Where do I turn next? So, I'm here looking for answers on who to contact and get this sorted out. Anyone?

The forums at FSD are, sadly, not working properly at this time. However, I note that both here and at SOH, you've not said what your problem is exactly. As well, when you say your response was... visceral, I'm not sure, but I think you are using the word incorrectly. I would very much like to see this email please, as well as your email to them. As part of the team who created this model, I have a vested interest in customer support being top of the line. Thanks,kc

>Unfortunately, my registration on their forum system didn't work right >or there is a problem with the automation, because I never received a >password confirmation. The forum registration process is very straightforward. You first register as per our New Forum Registrations guidelines, and the password confirmation email is sent the email address exactly as you specify it. We get a copy of the message sent to you, and we process the registration to Active status. We know you were sent that message, as it was copied to us, and we processed that copy. When you wrote to us saying you did not get your confirmation we explained your forum login had been activated days before, explaining that we rely on users accurately registering and using that same data to login, and that you probably should review the use of cAPitAlISaTions in your email address. If you don't type problematic cAPitAlISaTions consistently, then logins will not be recognised and it's the cAPitAlISaTions in the email address that's most likely the cause of the problem. The problem you seem to have is going to be in either your email delivery arrangements ~or~ your spam filtering arrangements. Every forum admin relies on people accurately registering with a valid return email address as that's where the confirmation is sent. We also have to rely on users monitoring just what their spam filter is doing on their behalf, for they frequently mess with legitimate mail. Most likely your junk mail folder has your original registration in it. If the email that is sent goes astray in delivery (or is as sometimes happens) or if it's processed by a spam filter as junk mail, there's no way anyone sending you mail can know that until they are told about it. When you told us about it we explained this to you, and that you may want to reconsider (the problematic use of) mixed cAPitAlISaTions in email addresses which years of experience has shown us does mess with mail delivery. Paul ... the bottom line is that we processed your forum registration exactly as you submitted within a few minutes of getting it. The forum software sent you the same confirming message that we got a copy of, just as it's been doing reliably for many years. The data you specified (cAPitAlISaTions and all) is the same data we immediately activated. Provided you login using the same data you specified when registering (including your cAPitAlISaTions) then you should have no problem logging in and using the forum. We still recommed the use of IE although Firefox (for me) works fine. Our forum software is soon to be replaced but it still works reliably for new forum registrations with IE or Firefox.I think that anyone reading this post will immediately see that we did everything right by you. We have activated dozens of customer registrations in the last few days since we released the P-38 and looking at a bunch of other new registrations I can see they too are active and can be used at any time. Whilst I can appreciate that you are frustrated (as is apparent by your recent message sent to us directly) we have done everything right y you - by the book. Your inferences and your messages seem really quite unfair.Once again I'd suggest that you take a look in your junk mail folder which is where the server generated message are most likely to be. If they are not, then please re-register using *all* lower case characters in your email address and that registration too will be processed ASAP. We really do want to get feedback, as is apparent in forum comments we have actively been seeking both in our own forum and elsewhere.Regards,

I'd like to add that I always received top-notch support from FSD.

Our forum software has become very dated. It is the same software that Avsim used to use, but sadly, it is not very compatible with a lot of the new browsers used today, although it should work "OK" with Internet Explorer. We have installed some new forum software and we are in the process of migrating as much data as we can from our previous forum, particularly the login account. But we we likely will not be able to import the old posts and threads. We hope to have this forum running by the weekend. We do have very prompt support available to you via our email support system that you can access from our Support page, or you can contact us at [email protected]. Sorry for the inconvenience.TD_forum_sig.gif

The problem I have is with you saying it is my use of cAPitAlIZaTions and accusing me of providing incorrect information as if I am a newcomer to computers. Right off you sound condescending. In customer support it is YOUR responsibility to nurture your relationship with every customer. You very quickly put all of the blame on me, as if I was stupid or something and offered no advice as to how to rectify the situation. This is not going to go well for you in business if the first thing you do is point out its someone elses STUPIDITY. cAPitAlIZaTions make no difference when writing to my email. On my own initiative I investigated the problem and I discovered that AT&T is using yahoo as a temporary mail service, while they modify their own and upgrade it. Probably it is your paranoia in dealing with internet aliases that is causing the problem. I have used this same account and cAPitAlIZaTions for much longer than you have been in business, and you are the very first problem like this I have experienced.I am far more inclined to blame you, since in my experience there has never been a problem (and I do a lot of business especially with your competitors). I, the customer, suggest you sort out your problems before you lose anymore customers. That would include filtering cAPitAlIZaTions to lower case on your own system, if it truly can not handle that problem. If you have no appreciation for customers then you are free to keep right on trucking as you are.Your support engine does not reach my account, yet I can receive emails from you directly. That seems very odd.

I'm sorry that you took offence at to the suggestion as to a likely cause of the problem, and I apologise if you took that well intentioned advice other than as was intended. I/we were simply trying to help you quickly find the reason for the mail delivery or filtering problem that you are having, and help you resolve it. I have spent a lot of time today trying to duplicate the problem or identify the reason for the mail problem you have including creating multiple test registrations using multiple private email accounts that I maintain including specifying them all with mixed capitalisations. I can't duplicate the problem as I'm getting all the login details for all the registrations and I've activated them all - instantly - as a user. Knowing now with absolute certainty that the mail is both going out, and being delivered, tends to confirm that there is some mail filtering occurring in the delivery side to you - either by Yahoo or by Bellsouth. We don't understand precisely why or at what point this mail filtering is occuring but it certainly seems to be what's happening here. We regret your understandable frustration, which we share, and I again reiterate my offer (made both above, and by email) to process another registration for you and hope you take the offer up.Regards,

Sadly, even after all this time FSD are still not very friendly once they have your money. Maybe greed I don't know. Very sad.
