October 6, 200916 yr Hi,Just bought a new corner desk with slide out keyboard tray and didn't even think about how i was gonna attach the flight Yoke. The monitor sits in the corner, so i'm sitting in the /\ "v" part of the desk. Don't want to trash the desk to get this to work.Anyone got any ideas?

October 6, 200916 yr Plywood or MDF is your friend :( Make a board that you permanently attach your yoke to, which can clamp itself onto the desk itself above the keyboard. Use a couple of small blocks of wood to make "clamps" that can hold the weight, remember to glue and screw it securely together so it can support the weight. You might want to angle the yoke itself a bit away from the level plane so that when you pull on it, the whole assembly won't come out. Or you can make a basic locking pin system underneath the desk out of sight using a metal rod and some blocks of wood glued and screwed to the underside of the desk.Without seeing the desk I can only speculate though, but if you've got materials and tools it's fairly easily done.
October 7, 200916 yr Thanks for the help guys.747-fan, i kinda like that idea of a locking pin system underneath the desk, got any kind of schematic for that? It's a typical corner desk, two end shelving units, and desk tops that meet in the corner with a corner support and of course the slide out keyboard that goes under the desk top. Would be lots of room for a locking pin system, just need some sort of plans and could modify it from there.
October 7, 200916 yr Well i haven't got any schematics, and I haven't built such a thing yet myself. I've got a straight desk and use the comp for 50/50 work/FS. I'm thinking of getting a yoke, but I need some kind of quick assembly gadget. I think that a plywood board with the yoke (and throttles) already clamped into place would be the way to go.First of all I'd get a USB 2.0 extension cord or hub to be on top of the desk next to the monitor for quick connection.I picture a locking pin system consisting of two small blocks of wood glued+drilled to the underside of the desk plate, and the plywood plate sliding on top of the desk with two clamp-like "sticks" if you will sliding underneath the desk and next to the two wooden blocks. Then a long metal pin of some sort could be slid through both the blocks and "sticks" to keep it rigid. I was actually thinking of using an extra long screwdriver I've got lying about as the locking pin. It doesn't have to be pretty as long as it's underneath the desk. :)The holes would have to be a tight fit to avoid it being wobbly, but I'd make the entry point for the pin slightly conical so that the pin's not so tricky to fit. You don't want to have to crawl underneath the desk to attach it.Keep in mind the somewhat heavy loads on the assembly and make it a durable one. Wood and screws are cheap. You can even paint the board so that the missus won't mind the aesthetics so much.
October 7, 200916 yr Had to read it twice 747-fan, but yup, you lost me. Sounds like engineer instructions. :)
October 8, 200916 yr Had to read it twice 747-fan, but yup, you lost me. Sounds like engineer instructions. :)I built my own corner desk but did not put in a sliding shelf for the keyboard. What I did was find a small used office table measuring 24"x 36" (61x91.44cm)which also has ajustable legs for hieght. Set up all my controllers on this table which I can slide under my desk if needed and place the keyboard on top of the desk. Of course I don't use my computer at home for work, I have one at the office for that, so this may not be ideal for your needs, but it is an idea. If I can get my desk clean enough, I'll take a photo and paste it here.I have an idea for a removable shelf for your setup but not so sure of its' practicality. Depends on how many controllers you have and the width of the corner where you placed the monitor. Mine measures 25" (63.5cm). Jim D.

Have some pictures? Can your monitor sit on top of the yoke system? (using no-skid rubber mats) Instead of using clamp, can you use velcro?
October 18, 200916 yr Velcro - I have a plain executive desk that I use for FS and have had the same sort of issue with the center drawer blocking the mounting clips for both my CH and now Saitek yokes. I just wound up using a couple strips of double-sided velcro. When I'm not using the yoke, the keyboard pretty much hides the velcro halfs that remain stuck to the top of my desk. I only use two strips about 4" each which are laid horizontially, left to right. On the bottom of the yoke, one strip is as close to the front as possible and the other as far back as possible. I oriented the velcro so that the softer, fuzzy, halves are permenently affixed to my desk.Good luck.... Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
