October 20, 200916 yr Hello,as the topic title says: what means MIN PROF if you select NDB or RNAV Approach in the MD11?You are told to enter a height in ft?But which value should I enter there? Is this somewhere in the approach charts of the airport?enlighten me a little, please...thanksguenter steiner Guenter Steiner -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Betatester for: A2A, LORBY, FSR-Pillow Tester --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
October 20, 200916 yr Have a look at this over at www.smartcockpit.com:http://www.smartcockpit.com/data/pdfs/plan...AV_Approach.pdfIt explains procedures better than I can put it...I use the MDA for the procedure, though you could always enter the alt. given on the charts prior to the final approach phase of the procedure...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
October 20, 200916 yr Author thanks for the link... I'm not sure if I have understood it in any point...For the height I think now that I have (concerning to the charts) use the altitude given for the FAF?But for what is this system used?Should it ensure that the FAF altitude is definitely reached before approach? October 20, 200916 yr No, the approach should not be performed using PROF, so you set the MIN PROF to allow the aircraft to get down to that altitude, upon which the system goes into alt hold mode. I am guessing it is to allow for a decent descent profile for the approach selected...The FAF alt is a good measure, sometimes you may need to use the MDA...Perhaps someone with a lot more savvy than I will come in and explain it better for you... :)Andrew Andrew Entwistle
October 20, 200916 yr On non precision approaches you want to use MDA. So you would set MIN PROF to MDA then level off at or above MDA then check for the minimum visual references of the field if they are insight continue the approach if not you shoot the go-around.Kevin W.

Don't just drop down to the MDA until its legal to do so. Doug Orvis PP-ASEL-IA (USA), Based at KHEF Picture courtesy of Kyle Rodgers

October 21, 200916 yr Author Just wanted to thank you, guys.Just tried it out. Now that I know what to insert here, anything cleared up and was a fine landing Guenter Steiner -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Betatester for: A2A, LORBY, FSR-Pillow Tester --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
October 22, 200916 yr Try the MD-11 into TNCM for the RNAV10 landing, I think the MIN PROF there is 1700, or maybe 1600. No ILS at all, and hands on all the way down. One of my favourites in the MD-11...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
October 22, 200916 yr Hi, I had some problems with the PROF Path, it is always to high: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=263794Do you have a workaround to avoid this?Jan-Paul Schuchna
