October 30, 200916 yr Saw a video on Youtube with a guy using the TrackIR and I was blown away, looks like a must have for simming. Went to buy it, but now stuck on whether to get the headset trackclip or not. Is it really necessary to get it, or is the sensor sitting on the monitor sufficient? Any feedback greatly welcome!

In your opinion it works just as well without the TrackClip?

In your opinion it works just as well without the TrackClip?HelloI used the reflector clip for three years before I got the trackclip, it worked fineJust a bit hot to wear a hat in the summer, and as I always wear a headset I got the trackclipwhen I went to TrackIR 5.Some folk have better results with the Trackclip , it all depends on your lighting situation in the roomwhere you use it.Trackclip will be more tolerant of low light levels as the LED's provide brighter points for the camera to follow. If money is an issue then get the TrackIR with the metal cap clip and you buy the Trackclip later if you feel you need it.
November 20, 200916 yr Hi fsape,I asked that same question. Other considerations aside, you need light to make it work. If you're in a lighted room, the hat works find. If you fly in the dark, the clip is generally a necessity unless there's enough light from the monitor for the reflectors to pick up. Other than that, I noticed no difference in operation at all. Do look at the screen where it shows the 3 reflectors moving around. If there are large blotchy areas, red as I recall but I may be mistaken about that, you've got a Windows or something that putting light into the TIR and it won't work correctly. Usually, just hanging a blanket or something behing your head is enough to fix the problem.Best regards,- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com
November 21, 200916 yr Hi fsape,I have to apologize for my last post. I was basing it on my experience with the TIR4 and apparently things work differently with the TIR5. You might look at the thread over at SimHQ where they're talking about essentially the same thing.http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topi..._TrackClip.htmlMaybe there's some help there. In any case, my apologies for the misinformation.Best regards,- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com
