July 3, 200322 yr 1) You can request an altitude change, or request a different routing by changing your flight plan in mid flight. While not as pretty as requesting Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
July 3, 200322 yr Taxi speed was increased in FS 2004 for AI. But yes, sometimes the AI miss an exit because they are going too fast and continue to the next exit. If you know the taxi exit is at the end of an 11,000 Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

July 3, 200322 yr Excellent thread, answers so many questions...Here's one more though: I know that it is possible to request altitude changes inflight, but will it also be possible to FILE beforehand flightplans that include altitude climb steps. That would be useful for filing realistic flightplans for instance for intercontinental flights where the plan has a climb step profile. And another one: is it possible to switch to IFR inflight? Reason I am asking: on long flights in IFR I sometimes just let my computer run and then come back after a couple of hours - when, of course, ATC has cancelled IFR. Would it be possible to "return" to IFR?
July 3, 200322 yr For FS 2002 (FS 2004 in the near future...), Radar Contact allows you to pause xxx miles from your destination. You let the co-pilot take over and it will pause. The only thing I have had a problem is I usually don't set the IAS hold on my auto pilot, so if I don't throttle back a bit, my A/C will OVERSPEED. but I could set my pause from distance to just before the descent will begin, then I can throttle back. It is totally flexible. It also allows you to save your flight scenario including current ATC situation -- position, etc. So if you want to practice approaches, landings, etc it works GREAT! Does FS 2004 allow you to save your flight including ATC, so it will pick up at the point (ATC included) you saved the flight?? This is an AWESOME feature of Radar Contact. Thanks! Barry
July 3, 200322 yr This is actually multiple questions, so let me try to answer each one Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
July 3, 200322 yr Yes, FS 2004 allows you to save your ATC state, so for example, if you were just cleared for an approach and saved your flight, you could return to that exact state by opening your saved flight the next day.The GPS will also fly ANY approach, the entire approach, for you. See earlier post - you still have to manage your own vertical speed but I imagine a developer could use the VSR value on the GPS, which has waypoint altitudes for every approach in the world, to drive an autopilot Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
July 3, 200322 yr Really solid stuff Geof. We all appreciate you sharing this stuff with us.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
July 3, 200322 yr There is some really great information in this thread. Thanks to all who answered but especially to Marc who put a nice bunch of questions to get the ball rolling. This thread shows why these are THE forums to come to for good advice.Bill
July 3, 200322 yr >Thanks>to all who answered but especially to Marc who put a nice>bunch of questions to get the ball rolling. Marc is the air traffic controller by profession if I am not mistaken and he created his own little free ATC add-on for FLY! called C4TO.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
July 4, 200322 yr Over 40 post regarding ATC... I sure hope Ms reads this thread and gets the idea that ATC is very important to us simmers. Of all the parts that make up the sim I think its going to be ATC that will make most simmers feel that need to be improved or allow an SDK to let 3rd parties help out. Scenery, flight characteristics and AI all have SDK or config files or other means to adjust or add to those parts of the sim and weather seems to be at a point that should make most simmers happy but MS holds all the cards for the ATC part. I sure hope that whatever version follows this one it will take care of whats left in making ATC seem real including:1) Holds2) Speed restrictions3) use of STARs and DP's and the ability to choose them when creating your flight plan.4) Prefered routes that are used by real world planes when creating flights as well as having AI follow them as well.5) When a VFR flight Plan is filed (using the flight planner) allow for the ability to open and close your flight plan on a FSS freq.6) Bring back the static when at the fringes of receiving a transmission signal like how we had ATIS in FS2000.7) Allow Unicom to offer fuel service. Have an option to,
July 4, 200322 yr A cool thing I have noticed is the simulated mode "C" transponder. You can now set the ATC to include those "red" tags above the aircraft to include the make and model of the aircraft, as well as the altitude and distance among other things.....oh yeah you can change the color of the text so you don't have to use red. :)[div align=center][link:www.jetdoc.com/STO/]Visit The Bookstore & Gift Shoppe][/b
July 5, 200322 yr Kilstorm,Even though you haven't got your copy of fs2004 yet I think posts like yours are very good. I would expect the MS programmers are taking a well deserved break-then probably they will start brainstorming on the features of the next version. One thing I think fs2004 proves-they do watch and listen! With the thousands of requests of course they have to filter, decide, and prioritize what they will tackle in a given period of time. For instance for me-1-5 on your list are very valuable. The order fuel from unicom I could go either way (I pump my own-lol)8-12 are excellent! If they found your unicom request valuable-do they give you the option to request fuel-or do they go as far as having a fuel truck taxi up to your plane? How about a line boy flagging you in to the parking space at the fbo? Reality has no bounds.....I think we see lots of wants and needs from persons depending on their particular interests-and that is what it is all about. Lets enjoy fs2004 for all its greatness, and then start giving positive input for what we want in fs2006. I would urge everyone to get their lists together-and maybe not only present a list of wants-but compelling reasons behind the wants.I am sure the same will be going on in a board room somewhere!Until then-I am basking in the new approaches of fs2004-one of the highest on my wish list-and I bet Peter Sidoli is basking in the new sky and clouds (I am too).So request away-the sky is endless! :-)http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
