Landing the JS41 on Grass.

Featured Replies

I looked through the AOM and I can't find anything, but lets say, I was operating a charter of engineers on a private JS4100 in Australia could I land on a grass strip or is that not aloud in a plane like this?

Landing on a grass strip should not be prohibited in the J41 in the world of FS. However in RW situations depending on the terrain you are landing on variables such as tires and tire pressure come into play. I.e. Landing on a muddy strip would require larger tires and lower air psi vs a paved runway where smaller tires with higher psi is acceptable. Also landing distance is affected on soft fields. (Grass is slicker than concrete decreasing brake effectiveness) However within the limitations of FS I do not believe any of the above applies. Have at it and take a picture :DThanks JR

Just make sure you have enough of the strip to land... Don't have it too heavy, or your approach speeds are a little fast and you might not stop before the end of the runway...And, if simulating a halfway realistic situation, you would want to be able to get out again...Example: Leaving Cessnock (I know it is not grass, just an example of a runway limited takeoff I nearly screwed up) in the JS41... I was probably a little too heavy for the runway length, and V1/Vr came with about 100ft, maybe 200ft to spare...Remind me to keep the passenger numbers and luggage payload to a lower level in future...Andrew

On the other hand you can land there and take off again with only a few hundret lbs of fuel and take a technical stop at an airport between the grass strip and your destination. should be fun :)

Lucky it is only the sim...I am sure your undercarriage might have caught the treetops... :(That is not a strip I'll take the J41 into...Nice video though!Andrew
