November 22, 200916 yr In one of my sceneries there appears to be a duplicate file somewhere preventing proper rendering. Seems to me that a while back there was a utility that would highlight duplicate files, blgs, dds etc. For the life of me I can't find or remember what it was.Hopefully someone out there can tell me if it is still available or that I was having a daydream that it ever existed.Jack

But it's important to know that duplicate files will not prevent proper rendering. The FSX scenery.cfg reads all your scenery folders and, if there are duplicates, it reads the latest scenery sitting in your scenery.cfg or the one sitting at a higher priority in your Scenery Library. Duplicate AFCAD's react the same way. If there's a later AFCAD for an airport than the one furnished with FSX, it will be read and loaded, not the one from FSX. There will probably be hundreds of thousands of duplicate textures files if you have a commercial addon like GEX. They backup the originals and replace them with their enhanced versions. So you must be careful if you do find duplicates and delete them. If you have the MyTrafficX AI program, you'll find AFCAD's in the Scenery folder in MyTrafficX's main folder. Those won't hurt you unless you put a commercial addon like Las Vegas below MyTrafficX in the Scenery Library. You can rename the one in the MyTrafficX folder though and you'll be okay. I believe all the AI programs have their versions of AFCAD's with their respective AI program so it's not just MyTrafficX. FYI, I just finished looking at every FSX utility in the AVSIM Library and there's nothing there to look for duplicate files.Best regards,Jim
November 22, 200916 yr Author Hi, There is an other one : for airportsEmile.......Thanks for these. The 1st looks like it's only for FS 2002 and FS 2004. Have you used it in FS X?Jack

It really is quite baffling. Basically what's happened is this: In this particular scenery, there is a "bush" right in front of an arrival gate (It's a fairly small airport). In the developers scenery it does not appear and the gate is clear. I've tried to find anything that would clear this up but have run into a brick wall. The rest of the airport is perfectly fine, just that damned bush. It's very obvious. I had thought that maybe there was a duplicate section of the terminal building but that doesn't seem to be the case. I guess I'll just let the passengers hop over the bush. By the way I do have UT 2 and many airport addons both freeware and commercial as well as AES. Jack F.Hi, There is an other one : for airportsEmile.........The AVSIM file area no longer has Airport Scanner. I guess it was never re-installed after the crash.Jack

November 23, 200916 yr There used to be a utility that would clear all scenery, trees, bushes, etc. from around an airport for a fixed distance of your choice. I installed it but will have to look to find the file name. Maybe some one else will remember the file name....I will check....fisheye

Maybe some one else will remember the file name....I will check....fisheyeI found the information and file names downloaded from Avsim before the crash...remTrees_5x.zip.....remTrees_3x.zipThis set of files will remove trees near runways for every airport supplied as standard with FSX. Some rural airports have trees right up to the threshold, making them rather tricky to use!Install these as with any other scenery, by adding them to the scenery library as a new layer. I suggest extracting the AGExcl folder to "<FSX>\Addon Scenery", but it can go wherever you want. There are two versions of this archive; one called "AGExcl_3x" and one called "AGExcl_5x" . The first clears 3 times the runway width and the second clears 5 times the runway width. Both clear 1.5 times the runway length. This can be distributed for free by any means, including with magazines/coverdisks. I would appreciate being told though :)Jim [email protected]
November 29, 201015 yr For the same problem i used a free version tool from www.duplicatefilesdeleter.com which searched and resolved all such duplicate hidden files
November 29, 201015 yr I've being using a free utility "Glary Utilities" ( google for it) and under "Modules" you will see Files & Folders. To the right of that select "Duplicate Files Finder". On your first use you will probably see a great many to deal with. I keep the latest dated one and delete the remainder. A monthly routine keeps the number of dups down to a dull roar and only minutes to accomplish the task. Glarys has many other neat maintenance items in that little program.Gary
