November 27, 200916 yr I have had this problem with any replacement water texture I've tried- past a certain distance, the game still uses the default water instead of the new textures, leading to a hard transition line. I've included a pic. It's a bit hard to see, but towards the horizon the water is the default bright-blue color, and in the foreground the water is a more realistic black. Is there any setting I should try to fix this? FPS is locked at 23. I would rather not limit the visibility distance, so any other potential solution would be appreciated.thanks.
November 27, 200916 yr HelloYou will see this with a lot of replacement water sets, Flight Environment from Flight1 has a few sets included that minimize the transition.

November 28, 200916 yr Is there anything that's freeware that will work?Does this hard transition happen to everybody, or do some people escape it?HelloI am not aware of any freeware that fixes it, the problem stems from the fact that in order to hide the join the addon textures would have to match the color of the distant base textures.Third party texture colors are obviously made to look more realistic in color but stand out against the blue base textures. The sets in Flight Environment are closer to the base textures in color and may be not to everyones taste but do hide (not completely) the join.Time of day , cloud cover and visibility help also.Try Aquarama from the avsim library and also some of peter wilding's earlier sets

November 28, 200916 yr Make a dusk or dawn pic? This one is 'ok' if you look closely as to what IS there and is NOT there. (as in my 'x-ray' pic).Chuck BNapamule
November 29, 200916 yr I think you will find the only control is in fs9.cfgTERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1once you set to 1, that's the best you will get. Outside of the extended texture ring, fs9 uses only the worldlc.bgl file and doesn't look at any texture bitmap (simplified world model). It appears that colors are hard-coded to landclass and waterclass values. In landclass there is some dithering done on the color using the detail1.bmp but I don't think this is done on water at all and makes the transition very visible. I think the only way around it, if you like your water textures, is to setMAX_UNLIMITED_VIS=so that you don't see so much of the simplified world model.scott s..
November 30, 200916 yr Flight Environment from Flight1 has worked for me. The problem is not 100% gone, but I never notice it during daytime or night time flights. The darkness of your water textures in contrast to the simplified water textures is what will make the problem worse. It always seems to be more noticeable at night. November 30, 200916 yr You can't escape it, shortly put. You can only make it better. As you saw, with FE it's beter. I have he same experience. It's just how the FS9 engine works...
