Turning On Radar Contact In Full Screen

Featured Replies

The way that I have turned on Radar Contact in the past was to go to window view, turn on RC and then go back to full view. But, now for some reason (not RC related) when I go from window view to full view FSX freezes up and I have to ctrl+alt +delete. Even after reinstalling FSX and everything else it still does it. I have tried various Nvidia drivers but the problem still persists. Is there another way to load RC to a flight into full view mode without having to go to window mode? Please help. Thanks!Mike

what's changed? sounds like a new video driver to me. did you recently updare the video driver? did ms update?jd

It has been published that the November Microsoft security updates causes problems in XP, Vista, and Win 7 "for some users" causing a Black Screen of Death in Win 7 sometimes at logon and other things at other times. As usual Microsoft's response was vague. Search for it on CNN or other news sources. You can try loading RC loading your flightplan and any other setup stuff (but don't click the START button), start FS and load or create your flight, and then alt-tab back to RC when you are ready. This avoids the need to run in a window. I don't use FX but if it has a general setting to pause on minimizing be sure it is disabled.

Thanks for the responses. I have tried quite a few Nvidia drivers from the archives from 182s to present but the result is still the same. I completely reformated the computer and reinstalled everything but the problem remained. I have no idea if or what XP update could have caused this. There are too many. I tried alt+Tab and it goes back to desk top where RC is active. However, when I try to go back to FSX all I get is sound and no picture and everything is locked up so I have to ctrl+alt+delete FSX and start over. This is getting frustrating because I cannot use RC in full view anymore.Anymore suggestions? Thanks!Mike

This was a fairly common problem with FSX before SP2 / Acceleration. Some sort of glitch between FSX and the video drivers. If you haven't fully updated your FSX installation with both SP1 and SP2, try doing so.The most reliable nVidia drivers I've found (and I keep trying newer ones) are the 182.50 ones. One thing to try, when faced with a black screen is going into the settings menu (the menus are probably still active) -- ALT + O E D. Change something, anything. e.g. Texture filtering to Bilinear or Anisotropic, then OK out. It used to work for me when I had these sorts of problems. You could also try assigning a Button to "reload scenery" (an FSUIPC assignable FS control) as that sometimes forces FSX to redraw too.And check your frame rates in both full screen and maximised windowed mode -- they should be pretty much the same. The only slight disadvantage in windowed mode is the presence of the title bar, but in a high resolution that's quite narrow. You could make it a sized window instead of maximised, and drag most of the title bar off-screen. Either way, ALT + TAB will then simply bring RC to the fore or put it to the background and FSX's window won't be "at risk". Additionally a lot of folks find that the FSX graphics in Windowed mode are sharper than in full screen mode.RegardsPete

Hello im having the same problem with RC4.3 in FS9 and XP. I've just found a work round and it has worked each time ive tried it today.1)Start FS9, with the default flight, click "Fly now". Once the sim has started, set the screen to windowed but maximise it. exit the sim.2)Restart FS9, Set up your flight as usual, and click "Fly now".3)Now click the start button on your windows toolbar access RC and start it up as u would normally. 4)Now Alt + Enter and you should be in full screen mode and everything fine. aslong as you remember to revert back to maximised window mode when you exit your sim. you shouldnt have to repeat part 1 the next time your fire up fS9.Edd
