December 5, 200916 yr my brothers! I really need help . Im going to re do my fs9 set up for the last time before going up to a new computer and windows7. I want to install a second hard drive. I want fs9 0n one and and win xp on the other. I need good guide to making this happen . I bought an 80gb ssd and a 320gb veloceraptor. Id like to put the os on the ssd and fs9 on the raptor. Is this a good plan? Also, does fs9 need to be on the same drive as the os???? is like to get on this asap. thanks in advance. edd jones.

No expert but I don't see what problems you would have doing that....In fact w/ less on the XP drive you should get a big boost in performance as there would be less on the drive. Also I do not think FS9 nn to be on same OS...SAME SORT OF DEAL AS LATTER....less on drive bigger performance. I think you nn to read up on partitioning hard drives. Maybe if I am way off base here someone will chime in and give you more info.
December 9, 200916 yr My personal opinion, install fs9 on the same drive as OS. Having it installed on a separate drive can result in some problems, and moving it to a different computer setup later down the line will also create problems if that's what you're going for. If anything, I suggest installing scenery, etc on the separate hard drive as that has the possibility of improving loading times and possibly a small boost in performance.Someone mentioned using another hardrive will gain you a BIG boost in performance, that simply isn't true. As long as your primary drive is 'fast', the difference will probably not be very noticeable. Also, DO NOT partition a drive and install anything related to FS9 on a partition on the same drive, this will only slow things down. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
December 9, 200916 yr I'd say this prob will work, but it will likely end up being such a pain to configure that you will spend more time tweaking it than flying. With the low price of hardware these days, I would just build a seperate FS9 box.I do run programs on my second hard drive with the OS on the other and they always work fine, so I dont think that wont be an issue. But running two OS's on the same system may be a hassel?
December 9, 200916 yr Hello, With the low price of hardware these days, I would just build a seperate FS9 box.No need of a full box !!Just a additional hard drive and a caddy systemAnd install only OS and FS on this diskCaddy system is the less expensive way :)EG:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/ca...20Drive%20TraysRegards.Gus.
December 10, 200916 yr Hello,No need of a full box !!Just a additional hard drive and a caddy systemAnd install only OS and FS on this diskCaddy system is the less expensive way :)EG:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/ca...20Drive%20TraysRegards.Gus.so how does it work when you boot up with 2 OS's? Can you configure the system to give you an option at start up, then choose XP or Win 7?I would only build a stand alone FS box if I had cash sitting around - somthing ill never have :(
December 10, 200916 yr Hello,Methink you had not understand the principle of the racks system. You don't have to run two OS simultaniously !!Each HD will be in a tray. And you can swap the HD (Stop the PC and change HD or not necessary to stop PC if you use a hotswap system)So you can run each HD separately. It's only one HD in the rack .. and the other is out and Stby .. :)Regards.Gus.
December 10, 200916 yr so how does it work when you boot up with 2 OS's? Can you configure the system to give you an option at start up, then choose XP or Win 7?I would only build a stand alone FS box if I had cash sitting around - somthing ill never have :(HelloJust use a good bootmanager, Put XP on one drive, Win7 on the other and you instantly have two systems in one boxhttp://www.terabyteunlimited.com/index.htmIncidently you can do this without a third party bootmanager as long as you install XP first followed by Win7 as windows 7 will automatically include XP into its boot screen, then just choose which system to boot into.
