AFCAD Editor Read Me File

Featured Replies

Hi all,I think this is the correct place to post this question. I have two quesitons. 1. I downloaded the AFCAD Editor from flightsim.com and it appears to be the old version, it least it says it is. When I first open it, a box pops up and says that this version is 72 months old and I need to get an update. Is there an updated AfCAD Editor, and if so, where can I get it?2. I'm reading over the html readme file that came with the download. The problem is that there are no pictures that should be showing up in the file. It does not do any good to click on the "Show Picture." Is there a pdf or word version that I can download so that the pictures will show up? I would be a lot easier to understand if I can get the ones with pictures.Ken.

1. If it is version 2.21, then that is the latest and last version available - Mr Swordy has retired from active FS work. That message you saw will pop up from time to time.2. Try starting the Afcad program and then selecting the HELP option fro the menu at the top of the screen. See if the pictures - which do not start until about half way thru the help display - show up then.I have no problem viewing them this way or by clicking on the html file directly. Also check to see if there are 30 or more gif files in the Pics folder where you installed the Afcad program. I did not count them but there are at least that many in mine.I am running XP - perhaps there is something else which needs to be done if running some other Operating System.Hope that helps.

Hi David,Thanks for the tip. I think I know what's wrong. You mentioned there is a picture folder with over 30 gif files. Mine did not come with that folder. Is there some way I can get that folder or if you can e-mail it to me?Ken.

When unzipping, did you set the option to keep folder names so the subfolders are created and files correctly placed in them?

Hi Ron,Yes, I have it set to Folder Names. However, I found the problem. When I extracted the file to a folder, I did not extract all the files requried, inlcuding the folder Pictures that I must have overlooked. It shows pictures now. Thanks guys.Ken.

Possibly you got the old version (1.4) which was for FS2002 - I have no idea if it had pictures or not.Try getting Version 2.21 from the library here:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...t&Go=SearchI know this one has the gifs - Keep us posted.

I on the other hand, would suggest forgetting about AFCAD altogether, and simply d/l and use the new and much improved ADE9X, which has all of the capabilities of AFCAD, a very similar GUI......and best of all, allows for a TON of new features, including the ability to add/delete/modify scenery objects. Most importantly, it is more strictly in compliance with the official SDK's "rules of creation" with regards to the compiled .bgl file(s).ADE9X is found here: http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/
