January 24, 201016 yr I'm trying to create a simple workable convert of a few FS9 AFCAD or full scenerys so they work in FS X. In large they work. However I have two main problems.1. When viewing from diferent angles I can see trough the asphalt. In the addon scenery the default Ground texture was replaced with a better looking one. However when looking from the side I can see diagonal lines over the screen and below I can see the default FS X cement texture.2. From far away the airport cannot be seen. Only the buildings above can be seen, but everything around in a square radius (including the runways and apron) are just a solid gray. What exacly does not convert well from FS9 to FS X? COuld it simply be an exclusion error? Eric Bocaneanu ROvACC Director

January 24, 201016 yr Author What tool(s) are you using to convert the files?Hallo Jon,The artifacts described above are all without conversion. For all my tests I used your own ADE however the artifacts did not disapear. Eric Bocaneanu ROvACC Director

From far away the airport cannot be seen. Only the buildings above can be seen, but everything around in a square radius (including the runways and apron) are just a solid gray.Could be what you call the better looking texture you used to replace the default texture. FSX uses a different type airport ground texture compiler then what FS9 used. What exacly does not convert well from FS9 to FS X? COuld it simply be an exclusion error?Just about everything. You state you used our ADE utility so why not just make the FSX airport with ADE9X. About the only thing that aligns between FS9 and FSX is the runways. All other parts of the airport will normally mis-align. FSX is also a more complex type airport then FS9 including the type ground the airport sits on.jim
January 25, 201016 yr Author Hey Jim,Thanks for the answers. I have to confess. I'm not a scenery builder at all. I did use ADE9X to add PAPIs and VOR/ILSs to airports in Romania that didn't have them in FS X (while in FS9) they did, but that just about it. The scenery I'm trying to get to work in FS X is not mine. It's the LROP one:http://www.rovacc.org/index.php?option=com...1&Itemid=38I want to use especially as there's no made AFCAD for LROP in FS X. So I want just a basic conversion that will allow to use that. And I'm willing to learn. I don't understand how for example for LKPR they made a scenery that is FS X and FS9 compatibly. The only difference being the AFCAD. So I thought I could just modify the AFCAD to get the same result in FS X.--eric Eric Bocaneanu ROvACC Director
January 27, 201016 yr I took a look at that LROP scenery you linked. What I see is that there is an included AF2 file (assume AFCAD) with elevation set to 53.34 meters. But there is an older style "Areas16N" flatten file lrop_fl.bgl that sets a flatten at 95.720m in this area:Area16N Flatten( 95.720 N44:35:23.13 E026:08:38.00 ; vertex 1 N44:33:27.84 E026:08:54.00 ; vertex 2 N44:33:06.00 E026:02:54.51 ; vertex 3 N44:34:54.56 E026:02:52.94 ; vertex 4 )End16Then there are numerous bgl files which place textured ground polys on that flatten such as lrop_grseztex.bgl which puts down the ground photos. Probably made with GMAX and the fs2k2 gamepack.Playing with this type of scenery in FSX and I haven't had much luck stopping ground poly flickering or flashing. You can try making an airport background poly in ADE set to 95.720 and see what happens. The elevation used in that AF2 file, 53.34m isn't going to work too well. You might try first putting it at the FSX default of 95.707 by using the change alt tool in ADE. . That's still going to be below the flatten but you might give it a try. scott s..
