Will a GTX 260 run FSX/FS9 at 1920 x 1200 2ms

Featured Replies

With my new system I am planning to get a new LCD/LED 23 or 24 inch Monitor. Will a GTX 260 be able to run it at the 1920 x 1200 2ms resolution with good frame rates? I am trying not to go too much higher than a GTX 260 so a 285 is not in the cards at this time. How bad would it look if I changed it from it's native resolution down to 1680 x 1050 2ms?Would I be better off going for a 22" with 1680 x 1050 2ms native resolution? I do plan to upgrade when Fermi is out and the bugs are worked out, that is why I plan on the larger screen at this time. I plan to connect the monitor with a HDMI connection. My new system will consist of:i7 920 @ 3.8+6gb 1600 RAM750W PSUJeremy

Hi Jeremy,I have pretty much the same setup you will be buying. I can say that a 260 will run pretty decently at the higher resolutions. I have REX, UTX, GEX, FSGenesis and UT2 SP1. I also have all of the PMDG FSX aircraft and the Captain Sim c130,757,767. I get pretty decent fluidity and framerates at KSEA with about 50% weekly traffic and excellent framerates at FL310 with moderate cloud cover. You will see the system get taxed at larger airports like KORD especially with heavy cloud cover. . I would also highly suggest that you follow Nicks guide on optimizing the system and follow his instructions for installing FSX on your new system especially if you plan on adding aftermarket addon aircraft and scenery. Step one is to get the system built, follow Nicks guide for setting things up and see how things go with stock scenery and aircraft. Finally, you will also want to play with the affninity mask settings in your FSX.cfg file if you leave hyperthreading ON. I use an affinity mask of 85 in my config which pretty forces FSX to use the physical cores on your new monster processor while keeping the virtual cores online.

I just upgraded to a 1920x1080 LCD from a 1440x900. My old 8800gts 512mb was def struggling with all the add-ons in fs9. I upgraded to a 260 for a few days. A big improvement but I could tell it needed a bit more umph. So i got the EVGA 275 and now everythings back to being silky smooth at 60fps, much better then it ever was at 1440x900 with my old card. Also, you really wont want to use any other resolution but the native one for LCD, else it will look quite blurry and washed out.

So how is 1920x1080 with FS9? Can you set up FS9 to use this Full HD resolution? I am about to make the same step changing my 19' montitor to a bigger one however I find it frustrating that I cannot find the old 16:10 aspect ratio anymore - new monitors are rather 16:9. Can FS9 be set to use 1920x1080 in settings? Thanks,Alex

Yup, no problems at all. Almost any modern game will be just fine with the resolution. I got the 1920x1080 because the same model for the 1920x1200 was a good 60 or 70 more....not worth it in my book.

Thanks guys, I have my eye on a BFG GTX 275 for just a little more than the OC'd 260 I was going to get so I may go that route now. Thanks,Jeremy

Good call. I just recently picked up a BFG GTX 275 OC for my backup gaming PC. It's a good card. About 90-95% of the performance of my OC'd XFX GTX 285.

Thanks Max, that is my plan but now it is just a matter of getting it back in stock at the egg. Jeremy
