Hi I recently installed FSX on a new system. I followed NickN's install procedure to the letter and was hoping for good things. The problem I've got is graphics jumping and some flashes when panning around. Before everyone jumps all over me and screams "bufferpools and drivers etc. I have tried all scenario's without success. My frame rates are locked at 30 and are not erratic anywhere so i just cant understand what is going on.The operating system is W7 x64 and I have a powerfull system - GTX285, 6GB RAM ,I7 etc, in line with what most peoples top end systems on here are.I've reinstalled the latest drivers just in caes, but no joy.I am inclined to think this is to do with W7 operating system but it's a stab in the dark. Can anyone give me some guidance as to whether I've missed something stupid that's right under my nose, or general advice to get me in the right direction.ThanksSteve

You need to give more information on your system spec, hdd size, CPU speed, fsx version etcfor many people windows 7 has actually improved things so it may be something elseTom

What Bufferpool settings did you use? Also do not forget that NickN's guide is geared towards quality when it comes to the driver settings (nHancer etc.) and not performance! Most people seem to think the guide is ALL about performance, but it isn't.

Do you have Vsync on? If not, you might be getting tearing. Also, "some" flashes when panning around in dense scenery are "normal" when you pan to a new direction..this should stabilize when you pan around a second time.

Your PC is more than capable of running FSX, so it may be a software thing??????Are you running nHancer, presumably you are as you followed NickN's guide. Do you run any other applications whilst running FSX?Have you tried messing around with the sliders in FSX, as J van E states, NickN is only a guide and so it may/will require tweaking from you.In terms of editing the fsx.cfg file, to be honest from what i have read the tweaks suggested by NickN arent really usefull for Windows 7, some may disagree but i can safely say i havent even thought of editing my cfg file and i am getting smooth performance on a lesser PC.That may be the way forward?? - Try deleting your fsx.cfg file - this will reset your control settings too i believe but its is an option.Im not the best at suggesting things other than the obvious, but sometimes the obvious is the answer and complicated tweaking etc is overkill - IMHO.Tom

Steve,If you dont have real good case cooling suggest you lower the overclock on that video card and see if it goes away.If not, or you think your ok there I suggest you simply go back to stock FSC.cfg first, take all your "tweaks" out.If the problem is gone go to the next step below, if it is still there try turning the FSX display settings down a bit until it goes away (it might help if you post those), things like "bloom" "ground shadows" and any kind of high AI traffic settings are known to cause a big performance hit as well as to show up artifacts depending on settings and hardware. If the problem is finaly gone you can add your "tweaks" back in, -->one at a time to determain which one might be the problem and then adjust accordingly.Hope some of this makes some sense to you.BTW are you in DX10 preview mode or not (you would have to turn it on manually)?

I get a flash now and again. I believe it's the noVidia drivers. They seem to be getting worse.
