For anyone who had the FSX version of the CS 727 it looks like there has been a recent update to v2.5 (16th July). If I have understood the description correctly they have updated for p3d 2.5 and this is a free update for those who purchased previously. A number of bugs have also been fixed and several improvements made. I hope to download this later. Tom

I am playing around with failures for a bit of fun. I was wondering if it is possible to set a landing gear failure, such that they don't come down when lowered. I can't find the setting under the failure options. Only tyre and brake failures. Can anyone help? Thanks Tom

A few thoughts here, based on my own quest for a a stable but problematic overclock: - when you get a bsod not down the error code and Google this. In my case it was a voltage problem which turned out to be the power to the CPU. I don't mean not enough voltage in the bios settings. In my case I was only using a 4 pin CPU power connector and not the 8 my kobo has. - I found keeping everything on auto at first and only increasing the clock of the CPU and using CPUid to monitor voltage and temps. - I tweak voltage based on my observations in CPUid to help reduce the temp. - I fitted a good cooler to keep the temps below 50. - maybe tweak the timings of the memory, in my bios I have some presets profiles which have helped. It's a mine field in terms of the amount of settings you can change. One of the big causes for bsods when using p3d for me was my dual gpu setup. Crossfire was literally crashing p3d on load so I switched this off and that helped too. I thought it was my overclock but turned out to be my other hardware Hope this helps Tom

I saw a TV program that featured this aircraft and have since found two developers who offer it for sale. Does anyone have any experience of either or even better both? Just wondering which is preferred by users. Thanks Tom

Maybe check that you have the correct and latest driver installed for the gpu and perhaps uninstall and reinstall the driver.

I have the 777 and all of the Airbus offerings. This question is one that has and will always be asked. And the answer will always depend on the user. As others have rightly stated above the pmdg is fully in depth with the Airbus being a lesser detailed model in terms of its systems. But I think it's horses for courses here, the Airbus has never been marketed to be die hard in depth and so it should not really be compared to the 777 as they target two different areas of the market. That said for someone like myself who doesn't have the time or inclination to go right in to the depths of the aircraft both would easily fulfil my needs, with the pmdg perhaps being a bit wasted on me. But if you really want the extra detail the. The Airbus won't provide this to the same level. Service pack 3 brings with it shared cockpit for Airbus and a few further refinements. And of course there will be the a330 in the future. I would say they are well worth the purchase and great for simple flights from a to b. Great eye candy and good performance. Lots of fun to get used to the Airbus specific aspects. I prefer the ease of flying the Airbus with respect to the FBW it's a great add on to any collection. Tom

Despite being against the pricing of the PMDG 777, I had a little spare cash burning a hole in my pocket, so I treated myself to the base pack and -300 addon. Wow what a beast, pretty impressed with the performance considering my modest rig (i5 2500k @ 4.2ghz, 16gb ram and R9 270x 2g GPU). I have my sliders on a medium to low mix and my FPS locked at 20, and I get a solid 19-20 FPS, but more importantly I get a nice smooooooooth flight. Just fliying from Dubai to Doha as we speak, happy days. I have to say I am pretty overwhelmed by the amount of customisation that can be done in the FMC, seriously well thought out!! I have in the past gone down the route of formatting and using ccleaner. It worked for me, perhaps others would disagree and there is a better way to go. Tom

Just a quick note, in case anybody else experiences similar issues. I just installed a fresh copy of V2.5. Unfortunately everytime I loaded it, it would end in an almost instant BSOD with the error code 0116. A bit of googling suggested this to be the graphics card. The only thing I could think of was that I leave my AMD R9270X's in crossfire all the time. Turning this feature off solves the problem. Obviously P3D isnt geared towards crossfire anyhow, but this was never an issue with earlier versions. I have thought the BSOD's were due to me overclocking my system, but I have since proved this not to be the case. Thanks Tom

Forget FPS, aim for smoothness. You also need to remember that there are a bunch of people on this forum that have great rigs and don't run at maximum settings. It's all about finding that fine line between graphics quality and graphics performance. This is difficult because everybody has a different perspective on what this fine line looks like. You have good hardware, better than me anyway. I get the sim to run smooth, but I compromise on the slider settings. That doesn't really bother me. But I remind myself that my pc isn't capable of achieving anything special, so I tailor my aspirations to fit this. The only thing i would suggest is to overclock. This gave me a performance boost. Although I have heard others suggest there is no benefit. I disagree purely from my own experience of the results. Personally I would change your expectation that you want to max the sliders otherwise you will always be disappointed. Tom

Can we have some clarification oh how things work without the addon scenery folder? For those active developers who use the older folder setup, I presume they will update their installers to use the new structure. For those non-active developers or those who have created their own scenery etc, how is the scenery now to be installed? I have yet to install p3d 2.5 for fear of not being able to install my addon scenery. As an aside will the migration tool be able to install fsx addons in to p3d 2.5 given this new file structure. Tom
