Destination weather incorrect / FSUIPC conflict?

Force DEST is OFF as per your suggestion. When I first got ASE installed I was flying with Force DEST ON but did not seem to affect the destiantion airport discrepancies. Thanks for the pointer on getting ASA - says the download is only good for 72hours and to email for support so I will do that.Anything else you would like me to try?Yes, please send your ASE settings and I will match for troubleshooting purposes.Rob.

I saw exactly this problem yesterday on a flight from LOWI to EDDF. I have the wind and visibility smoothing off in ASE and use FSUIPC instead because of problems when running Radar Contact.122.02 reported EDDF weather as 239/14 with various scattered clouds. Radar Contact reported winds calm and clear. Neither was correct. This is not the first time either, but I have started to fly more and its becoming very annoying.I did refresh the AI before the flight and have the weather change rate at zero. I have ASE running on a seperate laptop from my FSX PC if thats a clue.Best wishesSteve Munn

I see you have DWC ON, are you also smoothing winds with FSUIPC as well? If so, what are the FSUIPC wind page settings?I also see fog layer generation is ON...I thought this should be OFF for issues related to cloud layer generation I saw in another thread - please confirm? Thanks Jim.Rob Hall.

Hi Rob,With FSX I am using the unregistered version of FSUIPC so all smoothing is through ASE/DWC mode.I don't experience any problems with my clouds so I have that Fog option On. Yes, if you are, then please try with it Off.

Thanks Jim - will match your settings, do some more flights, and report back here.Rob Hall.

I noticed when I messed with the dynamic change slider I never got correct destination weather. Then I left it back on 50% and everything works great now. Sometimes the atc doesn't update, though, so they give me wrong runways and approaches, but I just ignore them

41X3 - Which slider? The one in FSX or the one in ASE? If I understand correctly, the dyn change slider in FSX has no affect on weather as it is 'user defined wxr' which means ASE is handling all modelling.Jim - I matched your settings, did 5 more flights this weekend with ASE, the destination weather being correct continues to be a problem it seems - 3 of 5 arrivals were with winds incorrect. It is hit and miss with ASE getting the arrival / DEST correct and so far I can't identify what factors are causing the issue...or what is different when the winds are correct. The next few nights I will repeat the flights with ASA and see if the DEST is correct more often. If the hifi team have any ideas what I can do to help troubleshoot, please let me know, happy to help you help me :-)Thanks,Rob.

the dynamic change slider in ase. I set it to zero, and had all sorts of strange weather, not updating at destination, etc. Then I reset ase settings to default, but unchecked smooth winds with ase, and bam, everything works.

Thanks Dave.I will try the default settings and se if I get the correct DEST WXR 100% of the time.

Just to add some closure to this issue, I have now had 20 or more flights with ASE feeding accurate weather data throughout the flight, including the DEST airport. The arrangement that works for me without fail is:FSX Sp2 runs in windowed mode, registered FSUIPC, ASE latest build, full version installed, DWC on and wind smoothing set to defaults in FSUIPC, force dest wxr ON in ASE.- Start FSX with a default aircraft in a saved situation with all weather cleared out, move aircraft to DEP airport, change date/time to current. - Check weather page shows User Defined Wxr and weather is clear. Check rate of change weather in FSX and ASE is set to zero.- When FSX is stable at DEP airport, start ASE...yes, I know this is not the recommended process, but it works for me.- After ASE is stable, change flight plan, refresh AI.I am only saying this is the process that works for me and in no way am I suggesting that I am an ASE expert, nor am I challenging conflicting posts on this forum. All is good with ASE as far as I am concerned. Thanks to Jim S, Bojote, and Bob for helping out with this matter.Rob Hall.

I can't use global mode though, as it messes up radar contact since the weather reported to RC is your current position and not what will actually be at the destination airport. Thus, you are routed into a tail wind runway.Steve

ASE with DWC is a great feature for en route weather, but has a major flaw for destination weather. This is especially true using Radar Contact, where you get the plane location weather not destination weather. I have asked Jim to ask Damian to write code that gets the local metar at ground level, which is what the program does when ASE first loads and the user goes to the report function. I am aware that DWC gives global weather, but that is unsatisfactory for obtaining "real" destination weather. This issue is so annoying for me, that I pay no attention to the weather call in Radar Contact. When I do my preflight I go the NWS site and get the current weather for my departure airport and forecast weather for my destination. I use that to select which runway to use at departure and destination. This works about 80% of the time, but if a thunderstorm comes in winds shift all over the place and my pre-selection could be WAY OFF. For example today coming into JFK weather at 12000 feet was 320/12, however the surface forecast was 220/10 and as I was on final approach I noticed that ASE was reporting 220/10, greased the landing with my LDS 767, would have had a crosswind if I used the weather that RC was getting from ASE.I hope the folks at HiFI realize that they have a major issue (not a bug), since the program is doing what it is suppose to do. However the function is WRONG IMHO.Bob DTW
