April 14, 201016 yr Managed to get a GTX470 today. Was going for an ATI 5870 until these appeared.First impressions are good. Replaced a GTX280 and at first I was disappointed as performance seemed similar at the same settings:Scenery: Very DenseAutogen: Very DenseWater: 2x LowTraffic: Ultimate Traffic 2 at 80%However, due to increased shaders and *******' tweaks etc I can increase Water to 2x High, Autogen and Scenery to max without hardly any hit on frames. The ENBSeries mod gives about a 3-4 fps hit as usual and I can even use FSX bloom without too much trouble.Highest GPU usage I saw was around 70% in and around Manhatten X and highest GPU memory usage observed was 845MB ' ish (PMDG 747-8).All in all, looks very promising.Edit: Forgot to mention I get NO flashing ground textures and the momentary black boxes when lights are rendered seem to have disappeared.
April 14, 201016 yr First impressions are good. You using the UsePools=0 tweak by any chance? so far.. all seems to indicate what have been theorized in recent posts is correct :)That would mean we are entering the 'Golden FSX era' still waiting guys... still waiting :)
April 14, 201016 yr Author You using the UsePools=0 tweak by any chance? so far.. all seems to indicate what have been theorized in recent posts is correct :)That would mean we are entering the 'Golden FSX era' still waiting guys... still waiting :)Yeah, using the Usepools=0 and Highmemfix=1 tweaks along with TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400 and TextureMaxLoad=9 (may try 30).In cockpit performance seems the same (on PMDG and other demanding aircraft) but visually the sim can look stunning whilst maintaining good framerates.I don't know whether NHancer is yet compatible with the 470/80 and their newer drivers so I am just using the inbuilt filtering at present.

April 14, 201016 yr Author EDIT: How was BP=0 with your GTX 280?BP=0 with the GTX 280 really smoothed out the sim albeit I could not really increase settings that much.It did however transform Manhatten X from 12-15 fps with default aircraft to 30+ fps. A side affect was the odd flashing ground texture. Even with PMDG aircraft in the same area I could get a consistent 18-20 fps in the cockpit and again 25-30 fps externally. This hasn't changed much with the 470, but you can add the bells and whistles so to speak!Do you know if NHancer will work OK with the new cards and drivers? I haven't used it in a while.

Install it and see if it runs. If it does, then it should work. If it doesn't open, then you will have to wait for an update. MSFS

April 14, 201016 yr The ENBSeries mod gives about a 3-4 fps hit as usual and I can even use FSX bloom without too much trouble. You're not using ENB together with FSX bloom, are you? That would be a waste of resources! That would mean we are entering the 'Golden FSX era' still waiting guys... still waiting :)One thing is for sure: it's going to be a HOT era... :( Too hot for me, I think. My computer is on the attic and it can get pretty hot in the summer. I also got my i7 920 OC'ed to 3.3 on the stock cooler. I don't think I can use the heating system called Fermi in my rig...
April 14, 201016 yr Author You're not using ENB together with FSX bloom, are you? That would be a waste of resources!I tried each on its own and each independently. Both together was a hit as expected. To be honest I prefer ENB.Thanks for posting. Are your fps locked? As for nhancer. Install it and see if it runs. If it does, then it should work. If it doesn't open, then you will have to wait for an update.I usually lock at 20. But may now move to 30.
April 14, 201016 yr Hi,Just ordered MSI GTX470 and secured confirmation will be shipped tomorrow! It will be interesting to see what the numbers and experience will show with FTX testing. ******* really likes his 480, so the little brother can't be too bad!Stephen

April 17, 201016 yr Do you use Ground scenery casts shadows? If yes, than GTX 470 is sufficient for me in FSX, if not,I might go for 480 Ján Pitor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i5-2500K@4,8GHz, Noctua NH-D14, 4G OCZ RAM 1600MHz, 7-7-7-24, GTX 480, 2xSSD (win 7 64b and sims), G940
