May 2, 201016 yr Hey Guys,I just got an i7 980X, along with a EVGA GTX480SC and an Asus P6X58D Mobo. I did a fresh istall with Windows 7 64, and then installed all the software. Next, I followed NickN's Win7 optimization, and then defragged. Following, I started FSX and to my amazement, it ran like #$U#%*&! I then opened the task manager, and saw that the CPU was running at 100% (HT disabled) and the GPU was only at its 725/1400 when the cpu load was 100%. Prior to the tweaks, FS9 ran fine. I tried to take off in the default cessna- horrible! What do you guys think it could be? The memory is running at its correct timings, I have double checked the BIOS, I don't know what else to do!Jeff

What does "ran like #$U#%*&! " mean? Low frame rates? Stutters? Poor image quality? Are you overclocked, and if so, have you tried running at stock clock speeds? There's a 480-specific version of eVGA Precision (v1.9.2) included on the disk that comes with the video card. Use that, not any of the previous versions on the eVGA website. Is your antivirus on? How about the file indexing service? File indexing, in particular, will run for some time after a new build to do its initial index build.Have you run MemCheck, done a burn-in test with OCCT or Prime95, and run any of the common benchmark profiles like SiSandra? There's no specific info in your post except a rant that your system performs crappy. May 3, 201016 yr Bob, the CPU is at stock speeds. With FSX, all 6 cores run at 100% load. I have NOD32 antivirus, and have disabled indexing and followed NickN's guide.Do you have a current BIOS with 980X CPU support flashed in the mobo?Try running task manager and look in the processes tab to see if there are other processes that are showing high CPU utilization. Try setting AffinityMask to 61 in fsx.cfg and see what your CPU utilization looks like then.Ensure you don't have drive compression or encryption enabled on your FS drive.Have you tried disabling NOD32 and then running FSX? Also double-check that you are using the 64-bit version of NOD32.Also, confirm you are running FSX SP2 and/or FSX Acceleration...multi-core support wasn't present in the RTM version.Which nVidia drivers are you using on the 480?RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
May 4, 201016 yr Moderator Jeff - I just built a system almost identical to yours, except that I'm using a GTX280. You dohn't say what kind of HDD's you are using? Is FSX installed on one of the SATAIII ports? If so, are you using the Marvell Controller?Ifte answer is yes - there might be you problem. Initiall;y I had FSX installed on a 600g SATA III 6g/s port - Got furious disk activity, CPU almost 100% - just a mess. Found out the MArvell Controller isn't ready for prime time.Switched to SATA II ports and reinstalledAll is well now.Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
