Display aspect ratios

Featured Replies

I came across this when I flew the Simcheck A300 the first time. The panel was designed for wide screen, and I use a "traditional" 4:3 screen, but there was a solution from the developers already.Thinking of this, and seeing various screen formats like 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200 etc., I cannot see a "common" and "well defined" standard for the aspect ratio as it is the case with 4:3.Everyone speaks of 16:9 these days, but almost no screen format really has this aspect ratio, they're mostly way too wide and have way too less resolution in the y direction. For FS, this means that most of the 2D panels (even after heavily trying to get familiar with a head tracking device and VCs I'm a convinced 2D pit flyer), which are "still" designed for 4:3 in many cases, get considerably stretched and squeezed in height.Since 4:3 screens continue to slowly disappear behind the curtain, I wonder what we can expect from the developers in the future, having all these various screen formats available. I for my part don't want to look at ellipsoid instruments (I see many screenshots in the forums that show exactly that). How do you conpensate for "wrong" screen ascpect ratios?Andreas

The simplest solution is for developers to include 16X9 Ratio Widescreen 2D Panels in their products.Note that this issue only applies to 2D Panels as VC Panels are uneffected.Eaglesoft pioneered inclusion of 16X9 Widescreen 2D Panels a few years back and expect others will begin to do so in products that include 2D Panels. :(

Well, I for one design 2d panels for wide-screen format initially. Once completed, I will then create a 4:3 ratio panel for the benefit of those who're still using 4:3 LCD/Plasma or ancient CRT monitors... :(
