May 17, 201016 yr I'm planning to get a Thermalright Venomous X CPU cooler and need two 120mm fans for it. I'd appreciate any recommendations for performance 120mm PWM fans. May 17, 201016 yr Do you plan on hooking both to your MB? If so what is the power and amp rating of the fan headers that you want to hook them to. I am not sure that you can hook two PWM fans to the same header.I have a Delta FFB1212EH-PWM hooked to the CPU fan header on my MB and use the Asus FanXpert utility to run it at 2100 RPM until it get under a load and then it can ramp at the way upto 4000 RPM. My max temps when stress testing with OCCT, Prime95 or LinX dropped 5C. You would only need one of these, but you will need to make sure that your MB fan header can handle it.Here is a link to Newegg, there are a couple of others listed, but I have not used them so I can not recommend them.http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....n=120mm+pwm+fan
May 17, 201016 yr The Venomous X is great, I have one in my system with a single Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000RPM fan, and my temps during OCCT Linpack testing don't go above 70C with 1.4 vcore and a 4.4Ghz overclocked i7 920. The downside is that at 3000RPM, the fan is loud. The computer in my signature is for FSX only, and when simming, the sound of the fan can not be heard over the simulator sounds, especially when wearing a headset. Shane Gavin

Well I was going to use a power adapter that plugs into the fan header and also has a Molex connection to the power supply. The ones I've seen allow up to three PWM fans to be connected. I was going to use two for a push-pull config.I'm hoping to overclock my Q9650 to 4GHz, any recommendations for a max fan speed or air flow value that would be appropriate (obviously it's not just a question of the fan speed!)? May 18, 201016 yr Author Ok, I'm thinking of getting two Akasa Vipers. Anyone have thoughts on these? I'd still like to here any recommendations you might have. May 18, 201016 yr I use dual Antec Tricool 120mm fans on my Venomous X which allows me to clock my Q9550 @ 4GHz w/1.34V. The nice thing about the Tricools is they have a fan speed adjustment switch with 3 settings, low being ~1000 RPM, mid being ~1500 RPM, and high being ~2000 RPM. I generally use the mid setting when gaming, high when F@H 24x7.
May 19, 201016 yr Author Ok, that's one AVSIM forum member with a CPU fan! Anyone else? It looks as though the Akasa Viper won't be available here in the UK for a few weeks so I'm still looking. May 19, 201016 yr I've got 4 of these in my Corsair Obsidian 800D case, 1 of which is on the CPU cooler as well as a 140mm fan too. I run them through a couple of daisy changed molex power adapters all off the same CPU fan header. The case is practically silent when not doing anything other than surfing the net etc, but when the i7 920 is overclocked to 4Ghz and at 100% load you can definitely hear the fans but its far from obtrusive. They shift a lot of air though so they keep my system very cool. Cheers, Andy.
May 20, 201016 yr Author I've got 4 of these Hmm... I might settle for two of those and if I want more cooling performance go for the Vipers.
