The 10,00th "New FSX rig" topic

Featured Replies

Hey guys, quick question. I'm on a budget of about 700-800 US $ and i was wondering, what would be the best rig for FSX? But here's my mindset, either i spend this money and get insane results, or i just don't want it. I don't want to blow 700$ to get sub par performance. Thus said, is it even possible to run FSX with Flytampa scenery and addon models and AI....over 50 FPS....max settings? Even with overclocked everything? What would be the ultimate rig guys that would be able to do that....under 800$?

Max settings.... haha.... 700 bucks won't give you insane results... 1500 would yield pretty nice results thoughWhat it comes down to is a balanced system. If you were to overclock the CPU you'd want a system with these core components:i7 930 CPU overclocked to at least 4.0GHzGTX285 or 480/ATI 58706GB DDR3 low latency ram(cas 6 or 7)X58-based motherboard like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...1-641-_-ProductA good aftermarket coolerA solid power supply such as: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...9&Tpk=tx850And a Windows x64-based OSNice to have would be a SSD for FSX, but a Raptor 10k would work as well for storage/data

so...not at all possible with a 800$ machine? because if so, then I'd much rather wait a few years for prices to go way down.

I spose a few guys will tell you you could enjoy the sim for 800 bucks...You could do a Core 2 based system... Asus P6T and E8600 overclocked to 4.0Ghz, 4GB ram, GTX275.... but that's still not including power supply, hard drive, monitor, operating systemEven on the Core i7 build you won't get 50fps + insane super-duper crazy performance on max settings.Unfortunately I don't think prices will come down all that much in the next 2-3 years. The i7 920 has been out for what, 2 years.... and its price has been fairly consistent around 300 bucks plus or minus change... (except at microcenter stores you can find it for 200)

Darn. Well how much would I have to spend? I saw one guy on here that spent like 11K aus $ on his, that is inane. But what would run FSX full sliders, 50 fps, fly tampa and lots of AI?

I run FSX max settings etc, at about high 40's low 50's average. I think I'm the guy you were referring to though spending 11000I run FSX max settings etc, at about high 40's low 50's average. I think I'm the guy you were referring to though spending 11000

darn. well my friend told me today that FSX can only run on one core, is this true?

Honkey True , FSX run only one core at release date . Now since service pack 2 , FSX run on multiple core . MS claim cpu core support up to 256 ??I want to tell you something , many FSX fan boys are same life style as AUDIOPHILE man. They spend more and more for best stuff to improve system , more for today and more for future.Think twice !!

Let me get this straight: you, the owner of a 980x ($1000 CPU) and a 160GB X25-M ($500 SSD) are talking about others spending too much money on FSX computers and referring to them as "a really excited user"?

Yes and No. Technically you are correct, but it does offload some scenery and textures to other cores. It's not exactly a true multi-core software platform like some games you find today. However 4 cores will help out with the scenery files...

No , Sir. I just to tell them . If they wanna be , they will prompt to spend for their hobby.May be I am not a man who could say this words.Um..m..

Okay, so I really over estimated the FPS. is it possible to make a system that will get MINIMUM of 30 fps at any given time? (even in down town new york, traffic and sliders pretty maxed)

Not really, look at the system in my signature, if I run everything maxed in FSX I get around 15 fps max, with dips down to 8 fps. I get around 16 to 18 fps over default New York in Captain Sim aircraft with all traffic sliders at zero, but I do use Ultimate Traffic II @ 75%, GEX, UTX, and REX. The system in my signature was around $2000 USD, not including monitor, speakers, etc. My scenery sliders are maxed except for mesh resolution @ 10m and autogen/scenery complexity at very dense.
