Hi To All, first time here, needing a bit of help

Featured Replies

Hi to all here! This is my first time posting here, please move the thread if not appropriate here, many thanks!First of all, many thanks to everyone here for their great addons, it certainly enhanced my flights to FS9! The sim and the enhancements here made me enjoy my simming days many years ago, and it's helping me a lot once more after I became a pilot myself last year...Now I'm starting to create some addons of my own... starting with repaints... but I'm having a bit of trouble...I'm using Abacus' FS Repaint v2 right now to repaint the default King Air 350 to the livery that I'm flying for real at the moment. The program works great, I got the aircraft's stripes in a few minutes of using, but the trouble I got was when I'm about to apply the tail numbers...I discovered that MS only used one side for texturing to cover the entire plane... for the wings, they only used one texture to cover all sides... (later I discovered that they used the same method on the rest of the default planes)The effect is when I apply the tail number on one side, it also appears on the other side, but in reverse... same goes to the wings...I realized that the reason why it happens is that the textures were mapped that way... and there's not much I can do about it...So I'm looking for ways to apply a second texture layer for the tail numbers... if someone here knows such a method or software of some sort, please post them here...any help will be much appreciated...Many Thanks!Hans

Hello and welcome Hans. Its funny you are asking this now.Just two posts ago we had about the same question on this forumPlease read: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=287210As you can see , we cannot do a thing with registrations on tail, wing etc. due to the limitations of the model."So I'm looking for ways to apply a second texture layer for the tail numbers... if someone here knows such a method or software of some sort, please post them here..."Sorry there is no method nor software to solve this problem.RegardsLeen de JagereditI just added this subject to the Repaint FAQ`s see question nr 14 ( I should have done that before, sorry. This once more shows having a FAQ`s on a forum like this is vital )http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=339

Ah I see sir... I've read the other thread and the FAQ as well... too bad that's as far as I can go with the repaint though... but apart from the tail numbers, the stock 350 now looks like the one I'm flying now...Thanks a bunch!

Hans ,It is possible to place a registration on the default aircraft by changing the line atc_ id = XXXXXX in the aircraft.cfg . You can also change the font type and colour .Maybe it will not be as exact as painting it on but it will be the correct registration . this applies to all default aircraft and flight sims ( Microsoft ) .John

How can I change the font and font color sir? I need it to be in amarillo USAF (italicized if possible) and black...thanks a bunch!!!

I just checked to be sure but realise now that the option to change font and colour was available in FS 2002 but is no longer in the aircraft.cfg in FS 9 and FS X . This does not mean that is no longer possible , just that the command is no longer in the default aircraft.cfg .I do not have FS 2002 installed on my computer - and after a harddrive crash - I am now re-installing FS 9 and FS X . You could try downloading a repaint of a default aircraft for FS 2002 and check the aircraft.cfg .If I find the CD's for FS 2002 I will check but as I stated am busy sorting out my PC ( writing this on my laptop - in case you are wondering ) .John

From the FS9 Aircraft container SDK...

atc_id_color=0xc6eff7ff Specifies, in RGB hexadecimal, the color of the tail number. The first two characters following the “0x” specify the red value in hex, the second two characters the green, and the third set the blue. The final two characters are unused. Each value can be between 0 – ff hex, which is 0 to 255 decimal. (Note: custom tail numbers burned into textures will not be modified by this).atc_id_font =Verdana,-11,1,600,0 Specifies how the tail number is displayed on the aircraft. The first field specifies the font. The second is the relative height of the tail number characters. The third field should be 1, indicating to use your system’s default character set. The fourth field represents the relative “heaviness” of the characters. The final field is a flag that specifies the characters to be italicized. The example shown is the default used in FS. (Note: custom tail numbers burned into textures will not be modified by this).
I have had mixed results with these.Sometimes you need the "ff" at the end of atc_id_color=0xc6eff7ff, sometimes you have to not use it to get your color to display.I have not tried many other fonts, but have played with the other parameters. There is a defined area on the plane that the reg number will display in, so you are limited in how big the font can be. After a certain size, which will vary with fonts and the number of characters in your reg, it starts to get clipped.regards,Joe[edit]There is a help file in the library for changing reg color- http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=43809[/edit]

Thanks for the replies guys!I want to ask what is the color code for black and how does the italicized values work, also, is there a way to reposition the tail number? Mine's right smack on the body stripes... if I can place it somewhere below it, that will be great...thanks again!

Pure black would be 0x000000, but that might not work as pure black is often transparent in FS9.Try 0x030303 for something almost pure black. For italics...

Thanks Joe , I thought I must have been seeing things . Looked everywhere but could not find any reference to the font colour / font type . That's the thing with this and another forums , someone always fills in where others leave off . At least Hans can now try and place his reg .Thanks again for helping ME out !!John

Thanks John and Joe for the help. (Thanks Hans for the question)Alltough this is not "painting" its a usefull way to make the registration at least the correct one, wich is far better than having the wrong one or no registration at all.I took the liberty to use your answers to make the answer (number 14) in the Repaint FAQ`s much better.I missed the aircraft.cfg part completely , never having painted a MSFS-default-plane myself. This way the Repaint FAQ`s grows bit by bit thanks to you guys.Leen de Jager
