I adjusted my settings to reflect the current 480 GTX overclock values I run FSX at and re-ran the Kombuster tests without vertical sync thereby reflecting more relevant information in our considerations. I have had a couple of recent screen freezes so I dropped the overclocks slightly. Here is the new data:Click here for MSI Kombuster TestClick here for MSI Afterburner Settings1277427251.jpg1277422591.jpgI hope this additional information is helpful to you.Regards,Stephen

In FSX, do you run with the FPS limiter (FSX one or external) or you've set it to unlimited?

Here is what the new build that was tested looks like. The case helps the CPU and GPU run cool and quiet.1277579729.jpg1277573138.jpg1277634341.jpg1277607846.jpgStephen

SpiritFlyer, very nice work! Did you get your ram issue sorted out. How did you conclude it was your memory. I noticed your side fan blowing on the 480 heat pipes. This is the preferred setup for those who are building a rig and the way I have mine setup. I Fly sliders etc. maxed out. EVGA Precision tells me my 480 peaks out at approx 55% usage and the GPU of approx 71 deg C and that is with the GPU fan set at 55%.I sent you a PM asking if you could share your bios settings. I feel I can get a bit more oc. However, the power consumption curve of the 950 starts to rise sharply after about 4.1-4.2ghz and I'm not sure that the gain is worth the temp/watts consumed after this point.

Cheers, Scott Ball

Spirit Flyer, what CPU cooling fans are those please? Did you fabricate the second fan bracket? Also, did you power both fans separately or wire them together? Thanks.Bob.. :)

Hi Bob,I threw the fan boxes away, but I think they are just regular led Cooler Master 120mm fans. Both brackets came with the Prolima Megalehelms heatsink so mounting them was really just a snap (Pun). I just plugged them into separate fan connectors on the motherboard. Great cooler, by the way, even if it looks like it belongs under a Harley Davidson's gas tank.Stephen

Hi guys!Just to know: what about GTX470 or 480 versus ATI 5870 ?Some years ago I used Nvidia with FS but after issues with their driver (I don't like that I have to use Nhancer) I decide to go for ATI and no problem! Now I'm using an ASUS EAH5870 1GB DDR5 but I'm curious if a GTX480 or 470 can give some more on my FSX :-)What about the driver? I have to use Nhancer again with the latest GTX cards ?Thanks!Bye, Max

Here is additional information to go with the above findings. It shows just how much the 480 GTX does not have a heat problem as well as a copy of some of the fsx.cfg file tweaks used.1276759597.jpg1276812083.jpgKind Regards,Stephen
I noticed you have affinity mask set at 15. I have seen 12, 14 and now 15. I was hoping you can explain the differences. I have a i7 875K running at 3.4ghz.Thanks

Since I use this link to detail my settings and equipment, it seems prudent to update my specifications in this thread since there have been a number of changes. Currently my machine has run well with the following settings and tweaks:385574Christmas.jpg11211.png56922.png30733.png11044.png78155.png64266.pngFSX.cfg File[bufferPool]RejectThreshold=126976 In order to help those with older equipment as to the relative FSX performance values, this information may come in handy. It is now 2 years old, but the data it contains is perhaps helpful to some.

For some reason many of the pictures and descriptions have been corrupted of scrambled.

Kind regards,
