FS9 uninstall and reinstall

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,Does anybody know if you can just uninstall FS2004 only and then re-install FS2004 without having to remove other scenery and Aircraft add on's on you have already installed? As I've had another motherboard put in and when I start FS9 up it loads up fine I then select fly now then after about 15-20 secs it crashes.I have removed all the scenery I've installed but can't remove one correctly as I cant find it on the Add / Remove Programs. There is one I can't remove correctly which is called Polish Airports / EPKT Demo as It's not showing up in the Add / Remove programs bit either anyone know how you can remove this scenery If you can just remove FS9 and then install it back ok again could somebody explain what you would do and how you would get it to work again.ThanksJason

Some things can just be copied back but many others should be installed fresh. Many items have files which go in various other folders and it is very easy to miss a critical file if you just reply on the copy over method. That holds true for aircraft and scenery.I recommend you download this "guide" to un-installing and re-installing FS2004:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...amp;DLID=123907I believe it will save you some headaches.

Hi David,Thank you for your advice and the link. One other question how would I uninstall the EPKT demo scenery as it's not in my Add / Remove Programs?Or would you advice me if I can't remove anything the correct way just to do a system restore which will put the computer back to the default.ThanksJason

You can rename the FS9 folder and then reinstall FS9 from a disk. From there you can copy back all your previous stuff by removing the default folders and replacing them with your previous FS9 folders (example: 'aircraft' folder can get deleted and your old 'aircraft' folder put in it's place). As far as reinstall of scenery and aircraft you'll mostly have a problem with Flight1 wrapper add-ons and packages like FSDreamteam's installers. All freeware will come back like it was. All that's needed for these add-ons is to reinstall them nothing more. If you made any modes to them rename their prospective folders and put your mods back in when the reinstall is done.Take care to rename your'C:\Documents and Settings\FS\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9' folder. This has all your FS9 settings which needs to get put back in place and not overwritten. The new install will overwrite this info causing you allot more problems. Again with this folder renamed you can delete the new one that's created and use this original in it's place. Whatever causing your crash needs to be investigated. If it were me I'd concentrate on getting my aircraft and scenery back in place and leaving most of the other stuff alone. Copying back too much of the original install will only cause the initial problem to reappear. Settings in your 'C:\Documents and Settings\FS\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9' could be at play where you may want to go with the resets from the fresh install.

Did that Demo scenery not come with any documentation which would explain how to remove it?As I understand it a System restore only affects the Operating System files - not programs and such which you have installed. I could certainly be wrong about that, but that is what I have been told. I suppose it would not hurt to try.

david:is there a reason you wish to uninstall FS9? i've never uninstalled an FS9 from my FS computer as 99.999% of all problems can be solved by having the game rebuild the FS9.cfg file.--
I'm not the one who wants or needs to un-install. I was just attempting to help the poster who may not have done a good un-install on his system.BTW - 99.999% is a bit high in my estimation - true, many issues can be resolved with a fresh FS9.cfg - but there are far to many other factors which can come into play which have nothing to do with the cfg file.
