June 19, 201015 yr I'm about to go back to ActiveSky 6.5 since ASE has a lot of problems regarding depicting the right weather and wind at the destination airport.I'm using FSX and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I know that ASG is not compatible with FSX. But when I install ActiveSky 6.5, do I have the option to not install ASG? I have my own cloud textures, so ASG is not needed. How can ASG be prevented from installing when starting the installer for ActiveSky 6.5?Jon
June 20, 201015 yr Hi,ASG is automatically installed, but it doesn't touch anything in FS until you run it, which I know you won't. So it is not going to do anything to your textures that you are using.
June 20, 201015 yr Author When I was still using FS9, I recall that ActiveSky 6.5 was automatically submitting ASG textures after you've updated the weather. I think it did that twice (when FS was closed, and after you've loaded up a flight). How do I prevent this from happening in FSX?Jon
June 20, 201015 yr Hi,I understand what you are saying! You would need to turn On Auto Submit in AS and you need to know that with Build 552 there is an internal check that will not allow ASG to communicate with FSX, sort of a safety check. So in the end, no textures can be installed into FSX from ASG.

Yesterday, I had the cloud popping, infinite horizon issue again on top of the usual destination winds incorrect.I don't have ActiveSky 6.5, does this version actually work better than ASE? I'm loathed to shell out more money.ThanksSteve Stephen Munn
June 26, 201015 yr Hi. I've gone back to AS 6.5 and it seems to work fine. The only problem I've got is the winds keep shifting (and cloud popping) during updates with 6.5 but I heard that can be eliminated with FSUIPC. I have a registered version of FSUIPC v4 and tried wind smoothing in that but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. Does anyone know how to set up FSUIPC with AS 6.5 in FSX to eliminate the wind shifting problem???I have FSX with acceleration and window 7 64bit. I also have ASE but due to the many problems with it I've decided to re-install AS 6.5. I use FSBuild for my flight planning and import the weather into this. Thanks, Martin. Martin Stacey.
June 30, 201015 yr Author I don't have ActiveSky 6.5, does this version actually work better than ASE? I'm loathed to shell out more money. In my opinion it works better than ASE. I've used it for many years in FS9 and never had a problem with it. Right now I've started using it again in FSX, because in ASE the winds at the destionation airport are not correct. Also the option "Force destination wx zone" does not work in ASE.Anyway, right now there is some wind shifting in FSX with ActiveSky 6.5 at the destination airport, and I'm trying to find out what the best settings are in FSUIPC when using the wind smoothing options.Jon
July 1, 201015 yr Yeah ive gone back to 6.5 as well.Works flawlessly for me in FS9, no cloud popping at all, which i get constantly in ASE despite trying all the suggestions on these forums.Andy
